Personally I would give him a run out in the reserves next week. How can you alter a back line that performed so well last night?'" We played against a team of motorway cones last night,Huddersfield will be a different battle altogether and as much as I liked the try Riley scored last night there is no way in this world he is SL quality as a 1st choice player ,yes maybe a lower earner to be used as back up in an emergency but he has the wrong build for a fullback or winger imo and isn't that good or strong enough in either position and I can't think of a 1st choice winger or fullback in the whole of SL who I wouldn't put him in front of .
So yes Mathers would be the right preference imo !

Think you are being a bit harsh there mate. Riley really came on last season & deserves his place on merit. I would keep him in the team tbh

Sheriffe and Platt (admittedly he played at centre last night but he was their first choice full back at the start of the season).

It was only last week that Sheriffe was the next wonder of SL when he helped Bradford beat Leeds 1

| Bit harsh on Riley if he wasn't to get a shirt next week. Yes Bradford were dog eggs but you only play what's infront of you. Caught every ball, returned the kicks well and joined the line well in attack.... almost a perfect showing from FB

Surely we can't hold that against him.
Fully deserving of the shirt next week, very good performance by him, even without his fantastic try.

How can you possibly say whether riley or penny will ever be enough. They have both got the raw ingrediants, i don't think they are that far away.

| Riley dropped a bomb early on, dropped a hospital pass from Paul Johnson and spilled on after a great run. In my opinion he made to errors and contributed a great deal. It would be unfair to drop him in my opinion. He my a lot of useful early tackle count runs from dummy half too.
Why chance Mathers after such a lay off. When he was at Wigan people were saying he was a laughing stock

but if you can see into the future...................'" Depends on how good your binoculars are ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif) Everyone has the raw ingredients ,but not everyone will make the grade ,Penny would be a world champion back slapper / cheerleader but he hasn't got a clue when it come to rugby he hasn't got an instinct for it which imo is something you need to be a top player and be able to play in SL and he hasn't got it imo.
Riley may make the grade eventually but imo he is not ready yet he needs to work on his upper body strength and his positioning and if he improves on both counts he may make it ,Penny is a lost cause ,I wish he wasn't seeing as he is a local lad but unfortunately things for him do not look good, but that's just my opinion and I am not in charge Lowes was of the same opinion he said so at the last forum he was a long way off and didn't expect him to feature this season ,Tony Smith has come in and unless we are desperate he won't play him either so surely that means the writing is on the wall for him !

Oh...thanks. I think.
If only people read things properly and in context we wouldn't have problems.

| What can Mathers do better than Riley when it comes to fullback?
Seriously, based on what I've seen of both players, Riley is far superior in that position.

That will be your defence mechanism kicking in to prevent you from believing that Mathers may turn out to good signing for Wire and actually improve a position that we needed to strengthen, thus allowing Riley to return to the wing.
Typical Wiggin tactic.

Riley has made more errors in Super League this year than any other player. I like the things he does in attack but reckon as a last line of defence, we could do better.
I know Wigan fans aren't going to change their opinion of Mathers, but wait until he's had an injury free run working under a coach who has a proven record working with him.

Micky Higham was best, petitions and protest's went around the JJB in order to keep him, when he signed for us all of a sudden he was bad at tackling and a penalty machine.
