| So by my reckoning the following are out of contract in 2024, thoughts around retention?
Daryl Clark - Immediate thought was he has to say, great player and has started the season well. Will Powell think Walker can do a good job on a fraction of the salary with Doolan in the wings? rlhttps://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/sport/23374801.daryl-clark-unsure-warrington-wolves-future/rl
Ben Currie - Seems to have been around forever but incredibly only 28. Sentimentality means I'd like him to stay, but I think Powell may be tempted to bring in a harder running back rower. Be interesting to see what happens with him.
Peter Mata'utia - possibility of retirement, I think Wrench needs to be first 13 next year, think he will move on but Powell is clearly a fan... rlhttps://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/sport/23354768.peter-matautia-warrington-wolves-future/rl
Greg Minikin - With younger players coming through, I wouldn't keep him on, but suspect Powell likes his versatility and guess he isn't on a significant contract.
Ellis Longstaff - Don't think we'll see him back at the club, coaching staff clearly feel Nicholson, Holroyd & Whitehead are better options.

| I think bar Ellis they’ll all be here in 2024.
That being if Clark accepts a huge wage decrease.
For Currie…we’ll have to increase his contract.
I’ve said I expect him to be great this season along side a big pack, and he has been and will be back in the England squad.

| On current form you would obviously want to keep Clark. I've got everything crossed he is past the injury issues he obviously had last year and will maintain this form. The thing is I don't know if I would be dishing out a three or four year contract this time, so if another club is putting that on the table we could find ourselves missing out.
Currie is a tough one. On his day he is a fine player and possibly the best passer in the team, but he has had a fair few off days in the last couple of years and as a 'leadership' player you expect him to set the standards.
Matautia and Minikin are useful utility squad players, which are important to any squad. However, whether you keep both or either depends completely on how much they are being paid and what else is on offer. Neither is a must-keep but both are doing a job right now.
Longstaff is obviously on trial. I've been clear I think he should be in our 2023 squad. Let's see how he gets on, but clearly there is something Powell's unsure about.

| I'd like us to retain Clark and currie, i wouldn't be too dissapointed we gave new contracts to mata'utia and minikin. I suppose for all of them it depends how we need to shuffle the cap space for the players Powell wants for 2024. I'm not sure about longstaff, he has looked great for us some games, but I don't think we have anything more than a bit part for him so he's probably better off elsewhere playing more regularly.

| I'd love to keep Clark and hope we can, but I have a sneaking suspicion he'll be off the Oz on the back of a great year with us. We'd have to either give him a long term contract of a very handsome short term one.
There is absolutely no reason why he should settle for anything less.
I hope Currie has a good year. He's a skillful player but I think he's not been consistent enough or at the level he was at before his injuries - and that's a few years ago now. If he can't have a decent year behind our other forwards then I could see DP looking elsewhere. But for me he is the type of player DP likes. Time will tell.
Matautia has been rumoured to be retiring, Minikin may have come to the end of his stay (maybe 1 more year?), and disappointingly I can't see Longstaff coming back.

| I would certainly like to keep Clark and Currie. Mata'utia is doing a fine job this season, but maybe this will be his swansong. Minikin and Longstaff, not really fussed about either way, really. What's important, though, is to look at the bigger picture around retention and recruitment, and avoid the disastrous scenario we had last year with multiple contracts up at the same time. That can't be allowed to happen again.

The ship had sailed for Clark to Oz about 2 years or more ago. He’s too old for them, too old for the next World Cup too.

| Assuming Peter M is on the quota I wouldn’t keep him next season. I suspect we will have to improve Danny Walkers contract which could see Clark being allowed to leave.

| Clark - yes, but on a lower salary
Currie - I'm 50/50. Maybe offer him a 1 year deal.
Minikin - no
Matautia - no. We've got wrench, ratchford has another year and we are actively pursuing a centre allegedly.
Longstaff - I like him, but its blatantly clear his future will be away from Warrington.

Yes - I suppose 30 could be too old for Oz, but in 2025 he could still be at the top of his game. I think age is irrelevant in a World Cup consisting of 6 or 7 matches if the form is there.
I've no idea how 'highly paid' he is and I doubt the vast majority of posters on here don't, but - a bit like Chris Hill - I think he could command a decent deal - be it salary and/or length of contract - with the majority of SL clubs.
Yes, we have Danny Walker and I could imagine him getting an improved contract when the time comes, but DC is still our number one hooker imo and having the 2 of them on the field later in the game works for me.
Would I bring in a hooker to replace Daz? Well that wouldn't be my preference.

| Next season would be Clark's 10th for Warrington. Wouldn't he be due a testimonial? If so, that would be a strong motivation to want to stay with us.

| Roby is still going so Clark as got to be worth at least a 2 year deal, if he only gets offered 1 then he will surely go elsewhere.

Clark is on the final year of a multiplier contract that has him as our 2nd marquee. I doubt very much he’d be offered marquee money. Any contract extension may take some time to finalise as he weighs up rival offers.

| It's too early in the season to really judge who we should keep, other than Longstaff who looks as if he isn't in our future plans.
With there being only 5 out of contract and Longstaff being out on loan, there won't be that many changes next year, which is a good thing in my view, given the turnover in the squad during 2022.
Should we recruit the rumoured NRL centre and then should we need a quota spot, then the likely candidate to make way is Mata'utia. With Clark and Currie, it might come down to terms offered as to whether they stay. This may be influenced by any improved terms to any of our squad members to ward off any potential suitors, especially if we have have a successful season.
Minikin is cover, and I'm not bothered either way.
At this stage, we have competition for places, and I hope this continues as that should be enough incentive for any of the five to make themselves indispensable with good performances.

| Not seen much of Aiden Doolan yet, so it will be interesting to see how he goes in our 1st team as hooker.
With Danny Walker as the heir apparent to Clark, if Doolan gets his opportunity and does well, I can see Clark being allowed to leave owing to Salary Cap constraints.
I can`t see Currie leaving, but it depends on his contractual demands.
As Powell demonstrated last season, he can be ruthless and it won`t be as easy for players` agents to over egg their demands as it has been in the past.
I think Matautia will be allowed to leave.
He is a quota player, we have Wrench who should play regularly at centre and we have recently rumoured to be linked with a NRL centre.
We can`t currently sign another overseas player, without releasing one of our current ones.
