| I dont have Sky, but dad does and he is somewhat confused about what package he should have now that the sport has been reorganised on their offering. What do people currently recommend for UK RL, F1 and perhaps a bit of footie which seem to be his main interests ?

| If you want more than 3 of the channels you might as well just get them all TBH.
You'd need Action/Arena (these 2 count as 1 channel IIRC) for the RL, the F1 channel, and then either the Premier League and/or the Football channel (these count as 2 separate channels).
The pricing structure is something like £18 for the first channel, +£3 for each additional channel, or £25 for the lot.

Virgin don't have the pricing for the sports channels like Sky have done. Their pricing is £31.75 a month + £7 for HD (they do have bundles, which are better value than that though).
On Virgin you do get BT Sport included. On Sky BT Sport is free for 3 months, but then £27.99 month.
I don't think the pricing changes make much difference though really. £18 for 1 channel is bad value, unless you are really into watching one sport only like Golf, F1 or Premier League football. Most will still want all the sports channels.

| £18 per month isn't "bad value"
Its less than a lot of people pay for their mobile phone contract, or monthly Costa coffee, beer or fags, and less than you'd pay in admittance to attend just 1 actual game.

I meant compared against getting all of the channels. I'd rather pay a bit extra per month than be restricted to 1 or 2 Sky Sports channels.

Yes, I see, its almost like every other channel is paying towards Sky's astronomical funding of the football Premier League....

| I was paying £76 a month and thought enough was enough -
So no more HD, no more disney, discovery, childrens channels and dropped to one sky sport and skypackage that had sky atlantic and some other stuff in and sky go for 4 users= £45. I told them I would be happier paying £40 and would leave it with them
They then called me two days later and threw in skysports complete for free and knocked a fiver off.....which seems better than £76

| The prices quoted are just a starting point. Get on the phone and haggle! I'm not affected by this latest change (being with virgin), but I have pretty much everything with them (phone, broadband and TV), and just one phone call to them (the retentions team) got me a £40 monthly discount (which took me to less than the "new customer" price I'd started with!).

| There's enough on freeview for what I watch on tele. I pay £5 for Sky to watch the rugby on my phone or a tab if I wanted.

It depends on what £18 buys you. I only watch cricket and rugby league on Sky. Two of the cheaper sports. I currently pay £22.50 for the entire Sky Sports package. I called up about the new 'sports choices' to be informed (as noted elsewhere on this thread) that this would cost £18 for first channel and £3 for the second - a monthly saving of £1.50. Given that the vast majority of Sky's budget for sports goes to soccer and Formula 1, I should get a major saving by opting out of them and going only for 'low-budget' sports. I have to continue to subsidise the profligate, corrupt bore-fest that is 'top flight' football, it seems.

Day pass on nowTV.com ? Or just use the Sky Mobile and stream to TV as some alternatives
