Shame for the lad really, always an honest and passionate player, had a good career for a lad with his level of skill, in the nicest possible way.

He did right by Warrington in both of his stints with the club, great attitude and spirit, and won me a couple of quid at Wembley in 2009 when he scored first (No inside info received), and had a memorable game in 2010, away a stand out on the day.

As for the incident, it's gut wrenching that a lad can't finish on his own terms, especially when there is such ambiguity around proceedings.

When we played Leeds in 2010 in the CC final he did a try saving tackle early doors on Bailey.
The whole game could have gone differently if he had not made that tackle.

Its hard to judge just from just reading stuff . But Mathers does sound very convincing in his innocent plea. ....

I don't understand the retirement thing though he got six months from last July I think? he'd be back for the start of the season.

Maybe he had the chance of a steady career outside the game and it wasn't worth getting bashed about in the lower leagues anymore. ..

Shame..... he will always be synonymous with the turnaround in the culture of our club for me. ..

and he made the pie eaters look daft when they do proudly claimed they had sold us a dud....

We could have done with him a few times this last couple of seasons .

I think he mentioned he's been battling with an injury for awhile and that might have swayed his retirement. He was never one of my favourite players but he did have some great games for us. I wish all the best

I presumed the main reason for his retirement was that the whole thing has made him lose any appetite for playing.

Yes, that's exactly what he's said. He was generally very good for us from the moment he arrived. The big dip in his career was his spell at Wigan The fans didn't take to him at all. I wish him all the very best for the future.

Ironically, we probably need someone like him at the moment in the team or squad, just like we did then

What's ambiguous about "Lads get as much as you can on Leigh -20" ... Explaining they've sent a weakene team and Leigh going full strength.

I didn't mind Mathers in his first year at Cas, he talks a much better game than he plays though.

One quote I remember of his, "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail"

The game at home to FC was the worst single game of goal line defence I can remember.
