| As a child I would role play my heroes, playing football I would be Ray Kennedy and my mate would be Martin Buchan.
When I played rugby I would be Ken Kelly, he was one of my heroes, hence the topic title...Kelly's Heroes, like the film.(good film incidentally)
So I thought of putting all of my heroes into a team that I will share with you.
The team is not like the many best wire team ever threads we've had.
they players may not be the best but they made an impression upon me.
It'll throw up some names that wouldn't normally make it into a topic....

Sorry to disappoint you. but, as far as I remember, ROBY (not Robbie) NEVER played in the centres, he was a loose forward, or a 2nd rower.
I did like RO'M though, v underrated

In my team he is a centre.
There's no wrong or right.
I think I remember ROBY playing out in the centres once or twice, I remember John Bevan playing at centre a couple of times also.
Anyways I want Roby in but he'll have to play as a centre as I can't see Nicolas or Martyn being able too!

| Alex Murphy what a coach and player. What a character he was on the pitch, and still is off the pitch. My all time hero that guy.

Centre when he first came to the Wire.

| Roby Muller used to sit behind us at *A* team games and the occasional first team game at Wilderspool...He would be sipping all the match from a bottle of Diet Coke. I suspect there might have been a certain amount of decanting going on because Diet Coke doesn't make your eyes roll like that.

Joe Ropati (lazy at times but hugely destructive when he was on his mettle)
but place of honour goes to the wonderful, sublime John Woods. I'd give anything just to be able to see him murder Ellery Hanley straight from the scrum to score on his Locker Cup debut, in the flesh, one last time (Open Rugby had a brilliant photo of it that adorned my bedroom wall, the look on Hanley's face said a thousand words).

Ronnie Rhino Duane, the face of eternal youth, he must be 50+ and looks 15!
Great player who would never get into a best of topic.
That's why I started this thread.
Your team of heroes not necessarily the best or even all wires!
