| not too many excuses after today,it didn't happen for us but could be a catalyst for the big one come october.we hopefully won't have any more off days and i am sure the players will want to finish the season strongly and win the grand final,i think there is still a chance for us to finish top.
a few players had bad games,i am sure bridge will want to forget today but in the last couple of weeks i thought he was looking good, briers will be disapointed to but we will not turn into a bad team overnight.
we are contesting for everything nowadays and have already had plenty of success recently,i just think about all those wintry days at wilderspool and what i am watching nowadays and know that we have never had it so good, onwards wire.

| I agree, we should target top spot as next priority.
We had chances today, yes there were mistakes but all it would have taken was one mistake from them in that last minute, we would have been under the posts and everyone on here would have been saying what great spirit there was, never say die etc. Nothing wrong with the effort today, just a lot of mistakes which meant their jitters didn't get punished.
Good luck to Hull for the final, I thought they might win this today, would be good to see them win a trophy and good for the game too to have a new force in the game. Them winning today, was a bit like what would have happened if we had won the semi against Bradford in 2000 - started the season with big signings and high hopes, fell away in the league, but a Challenge Cup win would have changed everything.
Still much to play for, don't spend time dwelling over this.

| Exactly. Warrington may have lost this Challenge Cup "qualifying final" match, but still have the Super League to focus on and hopefully another Grand Final appearance.

| We just have to win our last three games of the season (play-offs, not weekly rounds).
A few days off now and start building towards the play-offs. If somehow Huddersfield and Wigan can lose some games and we win the Shield then great, but it's all about three wins in a row in September.

| Hope we can now finish top of the league, as this is the true measure of the champion team.
Today was the Big One as far as I am concerned, and I am gutted at losing, but we didn't deserve it with that handling display.

| I agree to all of this. Gutted we lost today but we were poor in comparison to recent weeks - too much dropped ball, attack wasn't fluent and seemed to lack spark. We started well but fell away after the kick interception try. Frustrating to lose based on a below par performance but good luck to Hull, they were efficient and fully deserved their win. Their defense was bruising at times. I really hope they go on and win it (and that is not just because they are playing Wigan) and kick-on to be a top Super League contender next year. The more top clubs competing at the top end of the division the better and Hull really should be there. Arguably our Challenge Cup win in 2009 was the catalyst for success so maybe Hull can approach it in the same way.
Having said all of that....we've won the cup three times in four years....it is now time to move on and aim for the Grand Final. Doing the double seems difficult for all concerned given the need to peek twice in such a short space of time so lets go for this now in a big way. Finishing top is also do-able. Mission Old Trafford!

| Thats strange. All of a sudden finishing top would be an achievement. And there was me reading that it meant nothing and was meaningless whenever Wigan finish top. Hypocrites.

Well lets hope all those Wigan fans that have been saying "the cup isn't important any more" don't get too excited about winning at Wembley.
It's the mickey mouse trophy of rugby league these days which is why the attendances are so poor. The fans just don't rate it as a competition any more.

Strange how for so long something that had not much relevance when the Pies won it, the hubcap, now seems to be a great achievement and a sign of the true champions. I for one always thought it was anyway. Wire now have a chance to finish top, and should. I think the Wigan Hudds game should more or less be the decider for all the main contenders. On yesterday’s game, a bit of a slow starter, but it soon heated up into a cracker. To give away too many penalties will always end up biting you on the a*se, and almost did for Hull at the death. After the shambles on Saturday (not Wigan’s fault) Sunday was a great advert for the game as they say.

Yes and it showed yesterday on the faces of the weary wire fans. We all know the GF is the be all and end all, and it’s the real big money spinner, isn’t it? The trouble with wire is that they are a well-coached and very aggressive unit, but in the end only an average team.

You haven't read the numerous threads we've had on here where we've said that the league leaders should be held in higher standing and gain bigger prize money than they currently do have you? It's been said for a few years now by us. I think you just wanted to get any old dig in didn't you? So chose that one.

| Seems along with being sore losers, the Wigan fans seem to be sore winners too. Wasn't going to bother supporting a team in the final, but after listening to some of the vitriolic bile spewing from these arrogant t***s in the WN postcode, I'm giving my support to Hull FC.
