I disagree with Tony Smith's view on penalties. I agree with Wigan & particularly Leeds management ... who think you should take your definite two points in tight games. I have always preferred being ahead in any game (especially in the second half). I'm sure his many senior players will be also pushing this one ... so please, please Mr Smith let's just pop them over.

I agree! Leeds got to the grand final last year by taking the two. We won at DW last year by taking the two as did Cas today v Leeds. In tight high pressure games with poor weather conditions. Two points are crucial!

England beat Ireland by kicking a penalty, then another penalty, then another penalty, then another.............

This was certainly a tactic that worked well for Wigan in the corresponding fixture last year.

On Friday night, with 60 seconds to go before half-time and Wigan on top, did anyone NOT sigh with relief when they decided to go for the boring old two? I know I did.

Pretty much word for word what I was about to type. The same also applies to Leeds at Wembley in the summer.

Never, death or glory.

Say it's 16 all with 5 mins to go we take two and it's 16-18 we then get a set deep in our half and turnover roughly on the op 30, the other team then scores, game over and you look foolish.

I'd rather go for the killer blow, we could have evened up in the 20-22 defeat at the HJ couple of years back but went for it and if Solo and grounded it game over we win.

All or nothing for me

I'm with you on this Yed. Remember the Wigan Semi final in 09 when the kicked penalties with a view of getting infront and then trying to shut up shop. Then so e bloke called the King had a field day. Still my greatest game ever that one.

Law One: when it's wet/windy/muddy etc. get nose in front ... especially with say twenty minutes to go. When it's warm with firm ground and in the first half the plans change. Smithy's bright and will probably change his ways on this one.

Wigan needed to get a win to shut up a lot of pundits saying there not up to it this year and we got a draw not playing to well. I do not care if we take the two or not the coach and players to do what they feel is right at the time.

I wonder if this thread would exist if Simon Grix had got he ball down in the next set after that penalty. Or if Warrington put away any of the other chances they had in the last 15 minutes. The fact of the matter is, we missed our chances.

Matches tend to throw up slightly different dynamics and with these two I've got to agree with Ganson's and Browny. The opoposition taking the two showed a weakness, a lack of self belief that they could break through our line for max points. I think it actually gave our guys a boost

I prefer us to run the ball. We will win more games than we lose this way

I've got to say IMO that quite often they are...especially tight games
