32137_1302980312.jpg Fat blokes in the mud, flat caps, bogs that drain pi55 directly onto your boots - Now it's all 'Big Ask', 'Arm Wrestle', 'Collision' 'Contact' 'Facials' 'Upper Body Strength' 'Big Units' 'Scooting from Dummy Half' 'Energy Levels' 'Laying the Platform' ‘Middles’ and 'T-R-Y'. Let’s not forget resilience.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_32137.jpg |

| I listened to the game on the radio. From what I could hear in the background it was the "Alan Parsons Project"

Correct. The Chicago Bulls have entered to that song for about 17 years.

| How many old farts like me remember "entrance of the gladiators" followed by the PA " Fraser, Bootle, Fisher, Melling, Glover, Gordon ...."
I think we got Glover from Wigan. Parry Gordon was a god and a fantastic servant to Wire. I seem to recall he replaced Jacky Edwards after a spear ended his career.

| IIRC in the old days at Wilderspool didn't they have a selection of about 3 tunes from military brass bands , probably on 78's ?

Yes they certainly had a small selection. I think they used one of Sousa's marching tunes. I suppose they must have been on the old vinyl. I can remember asking my Dad why they played the same music all the time and he said 'same reason they play the same team each week'. Never did quite work out what he meant.
Did you see Bevan play his last games ?

| No ,i didn't start going till ,i think, the season after Bevan finished but i remember watching an article about it on Look North. I got Roger Millward's autograph when Cas were down at Wilderspool the week after he signed at 16. I remember all the other names you mentioned though...my great memory of Brian Glover is that every time he was passed to, the ball seemed to bounce off his belly.
Some great memories of those days Parry Gordon ,Willy Aspinall , Tommy Conroy & the list goes on !

Yes, my memory of Glover was of a fairly heavy set man with a Desperate Dan stubble face getting JUST forced into touch on the Wigan line. Perhaps I didn't see him at his peak though.
And then there was Charlie Winslade. He would trundle into the opposition forwards (a bit like Solo does today) and when there were 2-3 of them hanging on to him, this arm would come out of the melee and he would offload-- priceless !
