Two Challenge Cup wins back to back for a Super League crown?

In other word's would have you preferred Wigan to have won the past 2 challenge cups with us winning at Old Trafford or do we prefer what we have done?

No, like Chris Hicks said it takes a special team to win back to back trophies. I'd love us to win the grand final though mainly so we can have a crack at the best team from the NRL, if we keep improving we shouldn't be too far away in the near future.

Back in the days of 74/75 when we won 5 trophies in one season. The highlight of the season was winning at Wembley. The play offs as they were known then were nothing special.
Today, Sky make the Play off now to be the "major" trophy to win. I still would rather win at Wembley.

Although attention now turns to winning the GF as we've done the cup.

Also the attendance for both our cup wins were bigger than Saturday's so it's still the bigger occasion and to be honest gets more mainstream press coverage.

I remember Alan Tait of Widnes calling the premiership a "Micky Mouse Cup" when they won it - I've always thought that, but Sky TV have changed the importance of it for most.

Does help when Wembley holds around 15,000 more, so not really sure how thats even a point.

The Wembley weekend is far better as an event, but the GF is a more prestigious and regardless of how you spin it, its still the main prize. IMO id rather have what we have, the challenge cup is great but its the 2nd prize. We even topped the league to prove we are worthy champions. However neither of us should be jealous of each other, we have both had success and both look like we will challange again.

Yes. It takes a special team to retain a cup, but the best team of the year is rightly crowned champions. I want Warrington to be the best team throughout a season, not just in knock-out rugby.

From the point of view of history I would have a Super League win, the Super League is the ultimate prize and it is much harder to win. If I was a player I would rather have one Super League title than two Challenge Cups, as a reflection of having achieved something in my career.

However as a fan, I think the 'occasion' of Wembley is slightly better than Old Trafford which always seems to be over too soon for me. Maybe it would be different if Wire won it but I always think watching your team in the GF would be a case of nervously thinking "will we win it, will we win it, yay we won it, now time to go home before the queue for the tram gets too big". Old Trafford seems to be more the players' event than the supporters' event.

So as a fan I would take two Challenge Cup wins at Wembley over one Grand Final win at Old Trafford, but I do think the Grand Final is a far better achievement, so if I was a player I would want that.

Sally, do you think Old Trafford may seem less of an event because (a) it is 100 years or so younger than the Challenge Cup Final & (b) it is a lot closer so can be treated as a normal away game rather than a full day trip out?

Nail on the head there for me.

The whole romance of the challenge cup is about the day out at Wembley, and it is a fantastic competition to win.

But on a competitive front, champions of super league is a much higher acclaim.

Then again, topping the league is the hardest challenge of all and that gets the least acclaim.


FWIW, I know a lot of you won't feel the same. But i'd rather win the super league once than the challenge cup twice. I'm not trying to belittle your achievement but who have you had to beat? Granted you can only beat whats put in front of you and fair play for doing so, but if you offered them to the players which do you think they'd rather achieve?

No offense but the likes of hudders (in great form) and Leeds and Wigan all of whom were punching there usual best seems harder than Hull Kr, a team of Leeds youngsters and Saints, who never mind didn't have half backs, they didn't turn up.
