so where were we?

ah yes.....so we have, according to some people, offered BH a 2 year contract, starting next season.

One thing we do know though is

a) we are DESPERATE for a goalkicker
b) fullback is one of the positions we could certainly improve in.
b) A few players, who's contracts run out at the end of the season have been given new contracts. RM isnt one of them... mathers on twitter is also going on about a 'masterplan' for the future (finding another club?).

I can certainly see the sense in signing a goal kicking fullback.

Also we have to reduce the overseas quota by one for next season... V anderson & C Hicks leaving , with BH coming in would fill the quota would it not?

It all makes sense on paper i suppose.

It says in the Sun (yes, I know some of you wouldn't read it etc blah blah) today that Mathers is linked to Leeds Carnegie RU, Castleford & Wakefield for next season.

looks like b hodgson will be joining you next season

im not too dissapointed, great player but expected him to leave at the end of this season(not to wire mind!), getting on now and missing more games...

cant see mathers coming to the giants at all, was always the plan for leroy cudjoe to go to full back once b hodgson left us

a) No we are not - we are however desperate for the current goalkickers to put some practice in & for one of them to be given the job for the season.
b) Possibly.
b2) Not true - RM has not yet been offered a new contract although the club have an option to sign him for 2011 under his existing contract. You can read what you like into his Twitter comments though.

Why are we chasing a 32 year old Australian FB? If we are chasing an Australian FB, why not go after Billy Slater who would be far far better & probably affordable given the money saved on a number of departures?

Mathers Latest Tweet :-

RichardMathers training done, short sharp field session, weights and video. Time to get back to Leeds for a meeting to help figure out the masterplan...

I may be wrong but I think Solomona and Vinnie Anderson count as same federation and not on the overseas quota due to some silly interpretation of the salary cap rules that's why Wigan have so many overseas players!
I I am right we only have 4 quota players now and if I'm wrong I'm sure some one will be quick to let me know LMFAO icon_cool.gif

I think we are in need of a quality goalkicker.. current squad has a 'jack of all trades master of none skill set' when it comes to conversions...

I would love to see billy slater.. but do we ever see any top aussie players come over here, while still at the top of their game? I don't think Slater would have any inkling to come over and play here... not for a few more years anyway.

We have six overseas players - that figure must come down to five next season. Solo and VA are NOT same federation, they are overseas trained.

But then all this is explained - as you very well know - herehttps://forums.rlfans.com/viewtopic.php?f

Quite why you have to keep asking this over and over again, I don't know.

Its sad to loose Hicks but its looking like he'll be heading out the door along with Mathers with Hodgson coming on board, if so still leaves space on the cap for another signing.

On the whole situation, i would take Hodgson for 2 years with out doubt, regardless of age he still got the goods, great goalkicker which we desperately need, another leader in the side bringing a bundle of experience with him. I'd rather have Hodgson for 2 years rather than Mathers for 2 years most definitely, its a key area which have failed to plug effectively in my eyes.

A quality 13 and maybe another prop should be on the shopping list for next year.

Giants are in full flow discussing this, it would seem they are not bothered about losing Brett as long as they don't get Mathers

so... say for arguments sake that the rumor is true.... and that smith actually wants hodgson for the remainder of this season.... we would in effect have to lose one of our overseas quota to make way for him?

Pick the best player you can think of in the Aus side, if he came to SL next season do you think the Aussies would pick him again ?
They rate our league as inferior.
