The MP for Wirral who has resigned. Is he the Steve Hesford that played for wire in the 70's ?
He came from Blackpool way and from a fairly well-off family.
Surely one of the best goal-kickers Wire have ever had !
He used to kick for touch with a place-kick, made many yards every kick too.

The only kicker who I ever saw who was more consistent was Frano Botica. |

He was one of 3 brothers. One played rugby Union, One played football & Steve played league. The strange was that they were all capped at international level & played for England within the same year.

I know of Bob Hesford the RU player, don't know about a footballer though. |

Iain Hesford played in goal for Blackpool and in doing so followed in his father's foorsteps who also appeared in goal for Blackpool. Father Bob only appeared once for Blackpool but played many times for Huddersfield Town either side of the war. Bill McLaren was once commentating when Bob Hesford was playing in an England RU International - mentioned how the Hesfords were a sporting family because not only did Bob play for RU for England but brother Iain also played in goal for Sunderland - he declined to make any mention of the sporting exploits of the other brother Steve - wonder why ?.
