| Anyone else catch the waste of money of an advert in the Guardian this week for Wigan athletic. Do they really think they can get people from Warrington watching that rubbish.

| The attendance last night was just over 16K for a game against the top of the league. They haven't had a 20K attendance yet this season.

| I work in Wigan & there were bus stop posters all over the place advertising Season Tickets with Bolton at the start of the season. Guess they have to cast thier net a bit further afield.
Incedently, Letics fans seem to have real issues with Wigan RL - think its a historic thing. So we should probably cherish them: The enemy of my enemy...

For many Warringtonians who are interested in that sport, they are the closest geographic professional soccer club to our town*. It would make more sense to support them than try and justify Liverpool, United or City unless you either admit to wanting to support a team to enjoy success or you have ties with either of the Cities.
I imagine you would also feel alot more part of a club like Wigan FC rather than be swept up in the coporate and commericial world of the big clubs. I am assuming with this last point, as I have no interest in Soccer anymore.
* According to this site anyway,I have admittedly not tried all postcodes in the town

Wigan RL fans have a real issue with Latics too, in fact when I think about it, some Wigan RL fans have an issue with everyone.

It's not just Warrington, there's plenty of United, Liverpool, City and Everton 'fans' in Wigan.
Many of them like to mock Latics, then sit in their pubs/armchairs and 'supporting' these clubs. Replica shirt fans if you like.
I have met a few Latics fans from Warrington on away days. A few of them go back to when we were at Springfield Park.

What kind of percentage of latics fans come from the Wigan area?I am amazed they have stayed in the FA prem for so long on those kind of gates. Is DW paying it all out of his pocket?.I'm asking the first question because About 3 seasons ago Latics fans came on Southstander just before we were about to play Wigan and said something like"we want you to stuff em, and we want em destroyed etc"well for all our arguments and banter everyone of us told them where to go.I said "where ever you travel in the the world and if you meet someone who has been to Wigan, the first thing they will say is Rugby league,Wigan RL, not wigan athletic afc ,but of course I dont think you are a Wiganer"I told him denigrate Wigan RL you denigrate RL so gerraway and $hy--, we the the Rugby league family.

And Wigan RL still play second fiddle to this shower, being told when they can and can't play home fixtures...it's a joke. Surely Wigan fans that turn up every week and get bigger crowds than the wendyballers cant be happy about that??

| Is this any different from rugby league wanting to spread into 'expansion' areas?
Wigan Athletic are just trying to expand their markets like we do, wanting to put RL in Oxford, Northampton etc.

Well thats ok as one is a crossover summer game and one is a winter sport, but an FA premier football club trying to be viable in a town like Wigan its always going to struggle and look for ways to keep the wolves away from the door[that was not meant in a bad way],and to survive as a fa prem club its obvious they are not going to do it from the local township..its been done before, going into different areas trying to poach support even in our game!Bradford Bulls spring to mind

I think with football it is very hard to poach support as people don't transfer allegiance, and if someone was not already a football fan, if they aren't in Wigan, they aren't going to decide to start following Wigan, if they want to follow football why not follow United or jump on the City bandwagon?

At least with RL its most of the time new clubs starting where as this is just a go at getting a few more bums on seats. I bet the guys at Warrington Town who work their butts off to get 150 into the their games where not impressed with the advert.
