| In years to come I wonder how many of the fans that were actually at the Salford game claim to have attended this gig.
I've told so many people I was at Spike Island that now I'm starting to think I actually was.

| 'really did not enjoy the 8 mile walk looking for my car post gig!"
There was a similarity between the gig and the game then.. Playing Frogger to get to Barton international airport car park

I think if you were expecting it to be good, then they will share your opinion.....My son thought it was going to be ropey, got a ticket for £20, and, as he expected, reported back that it was ropey, with quite dodgy sound.....Said Reni was a good drummer, but that overall it wasn't worth the 60 odd quid ticket price.

After the disaster that was Reading 96 I was a bit worried in truth and although technically the band are not the best musicians in the world (not including John Squire who can hold his own with anybody) it didn't really matter.
Tremendous festival atmosphere and up there with some of the best gigs I have attended.

| If its any help I'm pretending that I didn't go to the stone roses gig and didn't miss salfords best win of the season (or maybe second best after the come back against catalans)
That said the stone roses were absolutely fantastic despite the slightly dodgy sound system. Great atmosphere and great performance and I got to watch the mighty reds on v+ on Saturday morning

Seriously? Mani is a very good bass player and Reni is up there with the best of them as a drummer. The two of them are really tight as a rhythm section.

From what i saw of both of these , not too mention the rest of the band were very average.
The sound at first on saturday was awful and barely audible, it got better after it went dark and was then pretty entertaining. The last few songs the atmosphere was good and they played them well.
Anyone who thought this was a good concert must have very limited experience of outdoor concerts, or just love the stone roses so much that anything would be great.
Overall was poor, but the last hour was fun.
Getting away was rubbish but that is my fault for not making any arrangements....

| Did they play "This Is The One"? As they didn't play it at The Part Hall the other week for some reason and its my favourite.

| Yes they did. They need to start playing that before the match again, they did it all last year but haven't done so any game I've been this season.

| Yeah they played it at the back end of the gig. A real jump up and down moment.
Euphoric evening, the sound (spesh John's guitar needing to be a bit louder) could have been a tad better but it almost seemed secondary - just like the first time around. Such a feeling of goodwill and gratitude from so many people, made a nice change.

Setlist here: www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-stone ... f7aaf.html
Overall a great gig. Yes, the sound quality wasn't always great, Brown's vocals weren't always in tune (no great surprise) and the songs did seem to be played slightly slower than they sound on record, but was just so good hear such great tunes as Bye Bye Badman, Where Angels Play, Sugar Spun Sister etc again. I think that some music from that era is very difficult to replicate live, particularly where its more of an indie/dance crossover sound than a purely guitar based song version - Fools Gold being a case in point, they did a good of it live mainly thanks to Mani and Reni being such a rhythm section, but a lot slower and without the same spark that it has on record. I saw Happy Mondays live recently too and was equally good in terms of an overall gig experience, but sound wasn't always that great in terms of catching the baggy vibe correctly...
All this early 90s indie music chat takes me back to my fridays nights at Legends... MD 20-20 an'all.
