| As a distraction from what's going on in the world and one in which we all join in without arguing. What are your favourite wire games for me 2009 cup semi v Wigan at Widnes just watching Mona's rip that lot a new one was a joy to behold..
Wigan away 1986 premiership semi Paul bishop 5 drop goals which slowly knocked the stuffing out of a star studded Wigan team...last years cup win over our scouse friends which was against all the odds made sweeter by all the crying by them after the game..there's many more I.e joey johns debut v Leeds when the h& j was rocking that night..the last game at widerspool and 1st game at h&j...1986 premiership final at elland road Leeds when my all time favourite player sir led Boyd ripped fax to bits ...the list is endless..what's yours.

| Can't remember what year I think maybe 2012 we beat Leeds 40-4 I think. Shinfield played a really good game kicking and we still walloped them. Just the most complete performance I have ever seen from a wire team.

| Some from the 90s and 2000s...
Halifax away in the Challenge Cup in 93/94, great comeback with some cracking tries from Jonathan Davies
Saints at home in the first season of Super League, it was the day I officially finished school and went straight from that game to a cracking house party. It was the one where Henare burned the Saints defence from a scrum 5m from our own line.
Beating Wigan with Alex Murphy as caretaker coach, Nigel Vagana hat-trick
Unlikely comeback from being pasted at half time at home to an up to that point all conquering Bradford side, with plenty of brawls and Allan Langer in magic form.
Last game at Wilderspool (I know there were about 5 'last games' at Wilderspool, I mean the one where we wore the commemorative shirts with vertical stripes and Appo got a hat-trick)
The game where Nat Wood scored a try and ran in to the stalls for a hot dog.
Andrew Johns' debut.
The playoff win away at Leeds where Briers kicked a drop goal in the last minute.
And a more recent one which was super special but doesn't get the love it deserves...
Beating Saints at Wembley to win the Challenge Cup.

| Wow. So many.
85/6
Widnes LCCSF Phil Blake chip'n'chase
Widnes Prem 1st Rnd Ronnie Duane in the gym corner
Wigan Prem semi. Bishop 5 dgs and THAT pass from Gregory (A) to Roberts
Halifax Prem.Final. Johnson 60 yarder, Boyd on top form
86/7
Wigan (h) Magnificent team performance
Widnes JPSSF (Central Pk) SLAUGHTERED THEM. Boyd magnificent.
Wigan, a few days later, same venue. P1551ng it down. Cullen only try of the game (iirc). Proper attritional RL.
87/8
Wigan WWIII. Unfortunately, we choked a draw, from a comfortable position.
89/90
Widnes LCCSF The week after they won World Club. We were tremendous. They had 2 broken legs... Ouch.
Oldham CCSF. Mark Thomas' superb passes.
93/4
Halifax (Monday night game/floodlight failure). Davies magic try at the scoreboard corner.
Saints (a) Regal trophy. Quality all over
Sheffield (the night we "won" the league) 80 mins of non stop singing
97
Wigan (h) Vagana
2000
Salford (a) CC. Allan Hunte in the corner, in the last minute.
Bradford (h) losing by about 16 at one stage. Cue Langer
2001
Wigan (h)
Supposed to be a live Sky game. We were in awful form, Wigan in great form, so Sky changed their minds. FOOLISH. 12 or 18 nil down in the blinking of an eye. Then a great ebb and flow game, settled in the last minute by a Lee Penny special
2003.
Wakey. Last match at Wilderspool. In 1979, I went to my first game, with a few schoolmates (one called Ian.... Within a year, I didn't clap eyes on him for another 23 years). Walking out, under the scoreboard gates, was Ian, next to me. SPOOKY.
2005.
Johns debut
2006
Leeds (a) The coming of age of Penny and Riley, and the Briers dg.
2009 CCSF Wigan
Watched on tele, on holiday. Superb.
... and it wouldn't be Warrington, without a heroic defeat.
So I'll plump for
84/5
Saints (a)
A game of "you score, we score". We lost by 2 points, despite ATROCIOUS kicking by Carbert for us and Loughlin for them. Memorable for Tommy Gittins 2@ing Mal Meninga. Brave man.
and also
82/3
Hull CCQF. Packed house. No Hesford.
Never speak ill of the dead, they say. I'll make one exception for Biased Billy Thompson. The swear filter will break.

| 18-36, 18-4, 18-10, 18-13 some big game beauties recently against the scouse mob.
Saints 2012 play off semi and 2009 wigan ccsf good recent ones. The whole season of watching Davies was fantastic.
NZ v Tonga 1995 was bloody brilliant.

| 78 v the Aussies, No Bevan, Kelly or Gordon. Nico asked to play half an hour before kick off and was just defensively awesome, and hadn't played for weeks due to a broken thumb. Being 10-2 down in the first half, a massive backs to the wall effort saw us home. I was on the terraces more or less level with try line at the Fletcher End, with the scoreboard to my right, so was in a good position when Gwilliam claimed and was awarded the winning score. For me, he was no where near it, but didn't care. The Aussies didn't like it up 'em as they walked off without a handshake. The win was just fantastic, and the walk home back down the causeway a very happy one.

Yeah you've had a lot of good days at our expense. It's much more even now though and the games are alll the better for it. You're a champion club with an army of trolls in support.

| Our first win of the barren spell against the Merseysiders, when they were playing at Widnes due to their new stadium being built.
The "away" end was packed and rocking, J&M Monas, Briers, Myler, Moz etc ripped em apart.

| Does anyone remember the mudbath win in the mid sixties against Saints. The weather was that bad I stayed at home & watched on tv (black & white then).
Saints were on a 20 odd plus run of wins & the Wire won 6-4. Not a pretty sight but an absorbing game.
