| I was in the club shop for the first time in ages yesterday renewing a season ticket, and I couldn't help but notice the amount of T-shirts on sale - in different colours and designs - that all had our real nickname on rather than the one that belongs to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Now I know the club have allowed little bits to creep back in occassionally over the years - those caps with barbed wire on the peak a couple of years ago for example - but that was the first time since the dreaded name change took place that I've seen it in such volume.
After 17 years without a single shout of "Come on you Wolves" being heard from the terraces, maybe they're finally learning. Fingers crossed the next step will be giving us our real name - Warrington RLFC - back permanently.
Wonder if they have to give royalties on the T-shirts to Warrington Town since they bought the copyright though

| Really glad to hear. I hated the change especially as I lived in Birmingham during the time of the change. It meant I couldn't have any car stickers for fear of vandalism as Wolverhampton Wolves weren't exactly 'soup of the day' along with Aston Villa.
One of the funniest things I ever saw however was a mirror found being sold in a corner shop with the words 'Villa the Pride of Aston'. The owners of the shop were from different shores and probably didn't realize that Aston is a tiny district in the Birmingham conurbation and that Villa were probably the only thing to be proud of in Aston. The makers of the mirror probably used a template such as 'Arsenal Pride of London' or 'Utd the Pride of Manchester'. It really should have read 'Villa the pride of Birmingham' or the 'Pride of the Midlands' to give it any credence.

Sorry to burst your bubble, especially being a big 'Wires' fan myself. Wolves is here to stay, as the club can't claim copyright in Warrington RLFC or even 'Wires' or 'Live Wires' as these terms were in the public domain years ago. Good that they now recognize that they can bring in some overtly 'Wire' items, but we should learn to love 'Wolves', too.

To be honest I can just about tolerate the term "Warrington Wolves" now. Only just mind.
What I simply can't get my head round is simply "Wolves" or "The Wolves". That sounds fine when referring to the football club from Wolverhampton, but it sounds absolutely awful when referring to WRLFC.
The proof is in the chanting. Leeds fans have embraced Rhinos. Bradford have embraced Bulls. Huddersfield seem to chant for Fartown and Giants in equal measure. Even Wigan fans use Warriors occassionally. We on the other hand have teenagers who have only ever known us as Warrington Wolves for their entire lives, but they go to the match and chant for Wires because everyone else does and always has.
We can still use Wolfie if every club really needs a silly mascot - I was in the Wolf Pack when I first bought a season ticket, and my first replica shirt has a wolf's image on the chest, but most importantly it is enclosed it iconic barbed wire and has "Warrington RLFC" written underneath it. We don't need the name.

No, we shouldn't - Its a horrible gimmick with no relevance to the club or town.

| I think it's up to the club to recognise BOTH parties.
The Wire means next to nothing to anyone under the age of 20/25, as all they've known is the sobriquet Wolves.
Likewise, to us 30+ers, Wolves is just a cynical marketing tool, to get mum and dad to by duvets, backpacks, etc.
The club should embrace both names equally, as there's money to be earned from both.
Obvious, really.

Maybe you should tell them that next time you're standing in the vicinity of them at any match home or away then, because Wire/Wires is all they ever chant for.
Wolves means nothing to supporters of any age whatsoever, and I'm hoping the club are finally accepting this.

In one.
Even other team's fans refer to us as Wire because that's exactly what we are and everyone knows it. Only "Saints" is a more commonly used nickname in Super League.

But that's just a chant they join in with. It's tribal.
Kids in my daughter's class go and watch Warrington Wolves, not The Wire
Kids in my street that are now mid 20's watch Warrington Wolves, not The Wire.
The Wire (bar a chant or two) means nothing to them.
Likewise, us old sods don't recognise Wolves. People (particularly people who are used to things) don't like change.
It's time for the club to embrace both names, equally.
It's a win win situation

To be fair WFIII, they've always done it.
It would be repetitious to simply refer to us as Wolves/Warrington. It's another name for us, which breaks up stories.
I can think of several for Wigan.

| Whilst I will always be a 'Wire' and cringe when I hear 'the Wolves' being used, to suggest that the term 'Wolves' is a randomly selected name with no relevance to the town is incorrect.
There is a head of a wolf in the towns' coat of arms, the image of which was used as the inspiration for the early 90's badge (prior to the name change) that was introduced with input from Paul Cullen.

| I'm 21, have been watching for 10 years and don't think I have ever called us wolves. It's always been wire, even people I know who follow our progress but aren't attending matches refer to us as wire. I can't think of a time when anyone has asked me what day the wolves are playing.

| The wolf on the coat of arms signifies the county of Cheshire and is derived from the arms of Hugh Lupus (Lupus means 'wolf' in Latin), the First Earl of Chester. Personally, I still regard Warrington to be a Lancashire town therefore the Wolf doesn't apply. Cmon the Wire.

| I call Warrington Wire...the place not just the club i.e. I'm going up to Wire at the weekend.
I'll always know the club as Wire and again the wolves moniker is a bit naff but I don't think we should drop it.
It's an add on, it's great for the club, it's a revenue stream, you can't market 'wire'
A wire man wouldn't pass trading standards.
Aim your wolf stuff at the kids, get them interested, little wolf toys, clothes etc.
Get your adult stuff like hoodies and hats and scarfs with Wire on, aim the Wire stuff at adults.
win win
