Seemed to have reduced the 5th tackle "give it to Dufty everytime" nonsense. Just need to work on getting Dufty into game in other ways. He was very quiet in comparison to his usual contributions. Fitzgibbon's injuries seem to have taken their toll. Crowther is still flying in with some real tough stuff on defence ... mind you how hard you go/how much pressure you put on the opposition never shows up on the stats.
There's no harm whatsoever in a player like Crowther who can fill in in a few positions and works hard in defence. The trouble for him is that I think Yates is a better version of that type of player and I'm surprised people aren't naming him as one we should retain. In the forwards I think Philbin, Crowther and Fitzgibbon are the positions in the 17 we could be strengthening. Yates does some cracking tackles. You see one of opposition players get flattened & you think who hit him? Then you realise it was Yates again. Not all the forwards offer nothing, the likes of Yates being a tackling machine. It’s the go forward that’s the big problem for us and realistically we only have Vaughan doing that. Now with the story of York going after him and the possibility of 14 teams next season we could be in big trouble next season if we lose him, I can get there is no guarantee he will be still as good but right now I can’t see how we replace him unless there are hidden gems in the Queensland cup with the new quota rules. Not heard or seen a lot about Liam Byrne this season so no comment on what he will bring. Unfortunately we are unlikely to hear the full details of the York bid & to compare it with what we are offering. If we can though we ought to give it our best shot to keep him. It appears that their offer of a 2 year contract is the attraction. We match that and he stays. If we can give a 2 year contract to Russel et al we can give one to Vaughan. He is the heart of our pack. We already need to strengthen the prop department and losing Vaughan will make that doubly difficult. He will want to stay with family settled so long as we get close to the York deal.

| Agree. Keep Vaughan, Harrison, Currie & Yates and I’m actually not averse to Crowther staying as a squad player. He brings great energy and enthusiasm but isn’t a starter for a team wanting to win trophies. All teams need a few like that in their squad. Ideally we need to add 3-4 big bodies to cover prop and second row.
I do wonder if Fitzgibbon may call it a day due to persistent injuries.

| Let’s not forget Wood and Thomas not top end players yet but good young players, shame if Whitehead is moving on. We definitely need another go forward prop it needs to be a priority.

| Crowther is a real strange one. He has limitations on attack and not a hooker ... but you would not enjoy playing against him. He's another one (like Yates) when the opposition get flattened ... you think who was that? Just need the right balance of creative players as well.

| Last nights stats make ugly reading - 40 missed tackles, and 40 line breaks by Catalan, and some paltry yardage gains by the usual suspects.
Fortunately, they had Luke Keary at 6 - a player with all the penetration and incisiveness of a eunuch after 12 pints.
We'll probably snap him up as Williams replacement.

So 40 "line breaks" seems a bit strange. Where did you get that from? I do worry about stats. Surely no side could make 40 line breaks without winning 100 - 0. I checked Leigh v HKR and Leigh made 46 tackle busts. Luke Keary has really been a poor signing.

Just Yates + Crowther is too limiting and Yates is the more effective player. Crowther as squad back up.

| 100% Wire:
Best part of that last night was the amount off p 1ss that was probably boiled with those who had their trousers round their ankles ready to go off on social media on how we blew it
They'll be saving it up for the next defeat.

| I thought we got the rub of the green on Saturday night. If I were a Dragons fan I would feel pretty aggrieved. In the first 5 mins Makinson should have been in under the posts if it wasn't for the ref blowing the whistle. In the first half there was lots of effort. Dragging attackers back towards their own goal line. Lots of kick pressure etc but then that all changed. I am often guilty of reading too much into things but it's like our attitude changed almost at the point that Ratchford replaced Sneyd. From almost the whole team the demeanor changed. We starting whingeing to the ref about the speed of the ruck and then the synchronized displeasure when Gardner was hit high (I didn't see much in it myself and I think Gardner and Phil in didn't see much in it either). It is like we stopped working hard to earn the win and started looking for easy way outs when under pressure.
When you are up against it and the opposition has had a kick up the backside at half time then roll your sleeves up and get on with it. Oppositions know we are fragile mentally and just like Darryl Powell correctly pointed out when the pressure is on we cave in. Yep. It was a great piece of magic from Williams at the end but we should have been out of sight after 60 mins.
