| Quote Gazwire="Gazwire"2/14 = 14% think we'll be relegated
7/14 = 50% for Powell to stay. (Spanish Wire said yes but I think he meant no going by his comments. It's just over half if Spanish Wire did mean yes.
(I think that's all correct up until now)
Very interesting, a lot more backers of Powell still than I thought.'"
Turn the fan base is both deluded and willingly wants us to get relegated. No good will come from this of the coach is under no pressure to resign.

The irony is that some of the players Powell moved on, were the same players who didn't perform for Smith at the end of his tenure. If Powell hadn't moved them on, and Smith had taken over/takes over (hypothetically), I wonder whether these same players would perform for him on his second attempt. I think we know the answer.

| Those wanting Powell out now would have more credibility if they suggested who would take the reins.

Michael Maguire.
Or Justin Holbrook when his tenure at Gold Coast ends, which could be sooner rather than later.
Both are proven Super League winning coaches. Powell was supposed to have been brought in to win trophies, but his only major final win was the Championship Grand Final with Featherstone. Other than a dinner plate, which we’re always told doesn’t mean , he’s won nothing in the top flight.

Yes of course. Maguire is available. Whether he would want to come to a basket case on the other side of the world is another matter.

Could say the same about any coach when they’re approached by a club. I’d like to think the club are making those enquiries.
We’ve still got some international standard players in our squad that could attract a high calibre of coaches, at least if the last England squad is to be used as any sort of reference. Would be intriguing to know the opinion of an elite level coach to know if the damage Powell has done so far is reversible.

For a bit of clarity, Holbrook had the best squad in super league by far for the two seasons he was here…
He was knocked of out the challenge cup twice, and super league playoffs once, by Steve Price.
All I’m saying is, it’s easy to rustle up a name when things aren’t going so well, but I’m not sure many of the names mentioned would actually have made much difference at the start of 2022. Maguire maybe, but the Wigan culture was much better when he joined and he only needed to make a few tweaks.

If you bring in a name who’s already got a reputation for winning major trophies, that in itself commands respect. That can cause a shift in attitudes of the players, knowing they’re being led by an individual who had already achieved what the players want to.
