| Quote Gazwire="Gazwire"Have any of them made the massive changes we've made?'"
Very few, because a good coach will adapt their coaching style to get the best from their players who they have been left with. Bring in a culture change progressively, ship out those not wanted and bring in the right new players as and when. You don't off the senior playing squad to such an extent you drag a club down from consistent top four to relegation candidates.
Powell must go. Michael Maguire is out of a job, and Justin Holbrook could be about to be shown the door at Gold Coast. Both are proven Super League winning coaches.

| Quote Gazwire="Gazwire"Was Smith undertaking a big clear out?
I really cannot believe people aren't taking this clear out into account when judging this season - I really can't understand this one dimensional perspective.'"
And I don’t get your continued defence of Powell. I think you’re either related to DP or Mrs O Holmes.
Who says DP needed to clear out???? him only! Smith came I and worked with what he had…as does every coach to start with rather than going full bull in a china shop! The clear out was Powells idea….on the ruddy hoof! No coach worth his salt would have seen so much change in one season….and he’s making an excuse out of his own making.

| Quote Gazwire="Gazwire"So you believe that coaches and anybody else for that matter don't make mistakes? Especially in a new situation where he's tasked with making a clear out. Do you think this was all under Powell's volition, and that the board weren't party to this cultural change? I think you'll find many fans were clamouring fir hig changes too.'"
we asked for changes to make us compete. the team we had would of seen us through many of the losses this season and we most likely would be in the 6 now.
this has been a massacre of grand proportions. and instead of steadying things. moving people on at the end of the season to keep continuity. he has butchered the team to make it his.
question. until his release. who was our top try scorer? bad apple or not. you DONT get rid of your top try scorer. you find a way to make it work.

| Quote wire2004="wire2004"Tony Smith has a track record of steadying the ship. bringing a challenge cup home to Warrington in 4 months. play attractive rugby. bring in 3 challenge cups. 3 grand final appearances and 2 league leaders shields. then come back after falling out of love with the game. and take a 10th place team to within 80 mins of a grand final.
Id of accepted playoffs at the beginning of the year as i understood it was a transition year. but not what is being served up at this moment.
something needs to be done before its too late.'"
DON'T TRY AND ATTEMPT TO USE MY ANSWER TO A DIFFERENT QUESTION TO UNDERMINE MY RESPONSE. TO CLARIFY THINGS:
your post:
Quote wire2004="wire2004"so would you have given Steve Anderson (35.2% over 34 games) and David plange (25% over 16 games) more time???
the latter putting us in a relegation dog fight after his predecessor bought a crap atmosphere into the club.
Paul Cullen secured the safety with 6 games by winning 2 of them.
change is needed now to steady the ship because, at present. I don't know where our next win is coming from'"
My response:
Quote wire2004="Gazwire"Difference is, Powell has a track record of improving sides and playing attractive rugby over 20 odd years.'"
I was comparing Powell to Steve Anderson and Plange.

Why should we? There has been no direct address that a clear out was needed, other than from a man scrapping for his job. If there was an attitude change required, then maybe he should have gone about that in a better manner rather than taking the club to the brink.
His job, the bread and butter, is to prepare a team. The team are unprepared. 14 of 17 two weeks in a row at Powell’s men, and this is in July. We’re not at the ‘gelling’ phase, we’re at the ‘if you don’t start winning soon, you’ll be out of a job’ phase.

F@@king hell! How many times. I am not defending Powell in the last two games, I am defending the right of a coach to have enough time.
The only time I've mentioned Powell in recent posts is in comparison to other coaches mentioned.

He’s had enough time! I give up. I admire you sticking with Powell, I hope you’re right but I’m 99.7% certain this won’t end well. At a guess I’d think 70% of wire fans now realise he’s not the man for the job. I believe he’s already created a culture that will NEVER produce results. That may not be entirely his fault but it’s done.
