It’s a bit of a forgotten art. On the last, the wingers drop back to cover more surface area, but there is just no desire to kick earlier any more.
There has been a shift of mentality to make the other team defend every play and then put the ball in the air and the hang time will allow the chasers to limit the meters.
Personally, I yearn for bygone times. Kick earlier and turn them around, or if you do put it in the air then challenge for it. But it’s a game of percentages these days.
