| We can't be definitive simply because we don't hear the on and off field discussions, but I would certainly feel the major culprit is the lack of a forceful, vocal captain. If you look at the team after they concede a try you never see someone waving their arms, gesticulating, banging a fist into their palm, walking around the group and getting eye contact. That's the job of the leader / captain, regardless of how many senior / England players are in the team, somebody still needs to bully and cajole everyone to up their game. But we simply don't see that with the Wire team, instead a group of (apparently) disconsolate players gather near the sticks looking like a women's knitting circle rather than a group determined to up their work rate and hit back twice as hard.
Another possible culprit is attitude. Watching the warm up preparations of a Wigan v Wire academy game ( where you can get within 10 yards of the players ) you see a big difference in attitude. Wigan hit the tackling bags really hard, Wire look as though they are going through the motions and getting their body positions correct. All that can only come from attitude. Start with the right mindset and at high energy levels and you can take the initiative, demoralising the opposition. All too often we see Wire concede early tries followed by a 'spirited reply' which just falls short. Fans go home encouraged by the response believing the team can still win silverware, but the real issue of attitude remains unaddressed.
Those would be my two guesses; mental preparation prior to kick off and lack of a leader.

| A doughty, workmanlike pack gave the wakefield halves enough space to look like Kenny & Sterling.
Could our current coach, and the architect of our Challenge Cup downfall not see then the problems he took advantage of would hinder him as well? A lack of backbone, no mental toughness and a huge reliance on two props?
Apparently not, and that is why a man who should be nowhere near our 17 is skipper and starting at prop.
And there's me thinking Daryl had no sense of humour.

| Quote: Philth "Was the Wakey loss misguided arrogance or just showing the culture of our club currently. Something is wrong, very wrong'"
The loss was against a good team with quality hardworking players across their squad. The fact fans just dismiss Wakefield like we are above them is arrogance. Super league is so much closer in respect to all teams and people just don't seem to realise it which is misguided. The match was 50/50 before it started so give Wakefield some respect rather than just sating we were really poor when we weren't. We have Mulhern, Daz Clark, Charnley and possibly Magoulias added to the squad next week which will strengthen us further.

Why stop at one?
Why not two, three or even four, like we did a decade ago. Let's face it, we don't have one PROPER prop. ATEOTD, Cooper is (merely, but a good) bumped up second rower.
I've said it before, our pack consists of second rowers, and that's it.

| Totally agreed.
It’s becoming a stuck record but what troubles me is everyone of us amateur fans foresaw this, yet our professional coach and his team together with all the decision making people at our club didn’t.
I’ve said it before , stop the vanity project and let’s have some sanity.
