| Finally made it over here from SA and planning to come to the game on the 29th Jan - my first time at the HJ and the first time I will have seen the Wire live since Boxing Day 1993.
Bringing my wife and 5-year old daughter (both new to the UK) so my question - which stand should I book tickets in for the nicest family atmosphere with a good view of us hammering Wigan?
You can't imagine how excited we all are, so any advice for making it a real family treat would be hugely appreciated - Thanks lads and lasses!

PS was Boxing Day 1993 when Jiffy played against Widnes for the first time since leaving them? I seem to remember a victory?
EDIT: Found it…. It was the 28th not 26th, and we won.

10 minutes 47 seconds in to that video. The state of that pitch at ‘Jurassic Park’ as we knew Widnes’ ground back then. That was my first season as a teenage fan. The next match (follows on the video) was the famous match against Wigan with the decision that ‘lost us the season’ as we used to say. I think we got over that though. Didn’t we?
Memories.

Usually there’s more atmosphere behind the sticks at a ‘normal’ game, but for a friendly and a good introduction to RL for the family, I’d pick a stand that has the better overview of the game.
Hope the weather doesn’t put the family off!'"
Great advice, think we'll do that.....not a holiday though, we've immigrated......and wife and kid looooove the weather

Then my mistake, it must have been Boxing Day 1994, as it was definitely at Wilderspool and definitely against the Chemics.....was a really dour grind of a match, but was the first time my dad had been in the ground since he left the club in the 1947-8 season

North Stand. It’s the stand Wolfie mascot will patrol and interact with the kids.

Welcome back. I was an expat for about 10 years in Dubai, and my eldest was born there. We moved back to Cheshire when he was five. Didn’t take him that long to adjust thankfully, apart from learning to wear long trousers instead of shorts! The hardest bit about being back here for us is the weather, as we spent almost all of our time outdoors over there. So make sure you keep a couple of weeks free for a bit of sun in the Med every year!
Enjoy the game!
