Quote shinymcshine="shinymcshine"It's a heck of a drive to get there, and roads can be a complete nightmare (M5 issues starting as far back as Bristol & beyond) in the summer months.
So it's going to cost NL1 clubs a good few quid in transport costs - likely to be an overnighter or two.'"
The better run amateur clubs would have no problem with this. It's once a season, possibly twice. It's been costed at around £6k including an overnight stay. The League 1 clubs should have no problem getting a sponsor to cover that. They could also easily get together as a collective once the fixture lists are revealed and schedule a bulk buy discount. I'd imagine the hotels and coach companies would be quite up for bidding on a contract that includes accommodating 20-30 people bi-weekly from February to October. Again the better clubs can make something of it too, have it as a club event for example, do a team building exercise or PR activity on the Saturday and play on the Sunday.
The drive down is also being massively overrated as an issue. Set off at 5 and you'll be there before McDonalds stops doing breakfast. I'd be there no problem if Saints get them away in the Cup.
