The way I read it - he's gone for good. Good luck to him but it is in Warrington's best interests. At 23 he's no longer a kid who's going to develop, he's 2nd choice behind Mamo as cover for wing / fullback.
Next season we will have two marquee halfbacks, a top class hooker, 2 decent starting props, a good fullback and wingers and, if Currie can regain some of his pre-injury form, we're ok at 2nd row. Where we are short is in our interchange and reserve props, loose forward / 3rd prop and a question mark over Burrell's ability to make the transition from Union to League. If we are going to fill those gaps we need space against the salary cap so young players who haven't set the world on fire and club servants in the twilight of their careers will need to make way.
We need better youngsters. Where Wigan and Saints have succeeded, and where we have failed, is that those clubs have been able to recruit and develop Super League quality players and enjoy the benefits of having them play at top level for one season at bargain basement level wages. If you can manage that with one player each year then you have effectively gained an extra player on the cap.
Quote: Uncle Rico "The problem here for me is, is Mamo and VFM? Unless it's part of some master plan to free up probably not a lot of cap space for a forward recruit'"
Me thinks it's more likely to give an upgrade of a contract to another youngster.
