| My theory on Hill is that he's carrying a lot of frustration because he's become another Stuart Fielden. He spent his early days as one of the top props in the world and he's gone on a premature decline in his late 20s, in to the ranks of the half-decent rather than great.
Remember when he first joined, for his first two years, he was our best prop. Seeing as the other props on our books at the time were Morley, Carvell, Wood and Cooper, and Hill was coming out of being semi pro at Leigh, that's pretty incredible. I remember watching him in the 2013 World Cup and thinking he's better than Sam Burgess in an England jersey.
I don't think he's tanked quite as sharply as Fielden, and he improved last year relative to the year before, but his career has not gone on the trajectory you would have expected a few years ago. I thought he would have followed Burgess and Graham to the NRL and dominated down there.

| Chris Hill is still our best forward IMO...just needs to clear the ruck quicker.

| Hilly was brilliant in the England shirt & him Cooper & Westwood ,when he played, were much better than the much hyped Burgess brothers despite their Aussie stamp of approval.
Hill's best performance seems stifled by petty gripes at the minute possibly because of the captaincy.

This was my point exactly. No one is really questioning Hill’s quality, he’s almost as good now as he was 2012 -2013. But he is getting increasingly frustrated and also frustrating FOR the referees... needs a calmer head in the Captain role and I’m hoping Widdop gets the nod next year to freshen things up a bit. Your best players quite often get even better with the responsibility of being in charge.

| Hill is still a world class prop..... he just has a tendency to do a few silly things now and again..... These seem to magnify themselves as its usually near the end of the tackle count.
he is 100% being pinged now for non offences. Opposition players know they can throw themselves to the floor when getting up after a hill tackle and they stand a better chance of getting a penalty, or turning a knock on into a ball steal.

It just goes to show that the team which cons the ref can influence the result. There are too many teams playing on the edge of the rules knowing they will rarely get pulled up for infringements & also playing to get penalties for their own advantage. Rugby Union seems to have stamped out most of the niggling play& i'm sure we can do the same.
