Old thread but does any one have any memories of Ali Brindle? It’s his 80th this year and any help would be appreciated as I’m trying to put something together for him. Warrington born prop from 1957/1969.

Brianbradyhandoff is great for nostalgia like that.

Debut 28 September 1957, last game 12 April 1969, position Prop, appearances for Wire 281, tries 7, drop goals 1, points 23. He played in 1959 Lancashire Cup win.

Gerry Helme lived in Glazebury but was born in leigh.

He’s my grandad but wanted to surprise him with some framed memorabilia for his 80th.

Get in touch with Karl Fitz as he is big on nostalgia it seems. I think the club would love to do something for him in recognition of his contribution and his birthday.

“Goodnight Vienna”

Ali Brindle was a no nonsense No.10. He was unspectacular but had the *engine* and never stopped working. My abiding memory of him was a match vs St Helens when John Mantle(rip) took an almighty swing at him. Ali saw it coming out of the corner of his eye and ducked just in time. He didn't connect but the draught made him a bit dizzy. I lived in Burtonwood for some years and used to see Ali in the post office collecting his cash. He spotted me one day outside the HJ and stopped for a chat. He must think I'm an ex player(I'm not)
