I was at an event earlier this year where Lindsey Hoyle MP, Deputy Speaker of House of Commons, was speaking passionately of his love for Rugby League, saying that the reason he loved it was because it was “not all about money”. I don’t doubt his sincerity, but the sad irony of that now being a selling point of the only sport I can think of that was created for financial reasons was apparently lost on him
