| Back in the dark, damp month of March, I said on here (even after our poor start to the season), that there's NO reason why this side cannot win SL.
Price inherited a side with quite a few quality SL players. Ratchford, Lineham, Atkins, Hill, Clark and Cooper. Add to these, the intermittent form of Livett, the unfortunate Currie and the signing of Charnley, that the basis of a good side, that SHOULD be good enough to be playing in the GF. The talk of transition (imo) is just bluster. We've employed a coach, have a side of internationals....GET ON WITH IT.
Our problem lies with our halves. Pound for pound, they're the worst we've had, considering their "worth".
As a club (again, imo) this can be traced back to our great 2011 side. It was clear (to me, at least) that Briers' time was coming to an inevitable end, and we needed to prepare for [ilife after Lee[/i. He was getting no younger, and had a penchant for picking up month long injuries. Smith buried his head in the sand, and carried on regardless, Briers GREAT performances were few, after 2011, but never poor. We then wrung every bit out of Briers, until he was told to finish by his doctor. In 11, we should've made it No 1 priority to bring someone in to work alongside Briers, eventually to replace him. WE DID NOTHING.. Myler , was bought as an individual, not a team man.
I had a quick glance at other sites opinions of the CCF, yesterday. I think it was on the Hull site one post said (something along the lines of) [ithese are the worst set of halves I've seen.[/i It's hard to disagree. In the last month or so, bar walloping a massively understrength Cats, and a hapless Leeds, we've created NOWT. An early try v Saints, then plod through the rest of the game, a 10 minute flurry v Cas, and two scruffyish tries in the final, we offer nothing in the halves.
When Roberts announced his intention to leave, he should have gone THEN, and replaced (if available, is he injured, out of favour) by Matty Smith, a proven winner WHO ALSO KICKS GOALS WELL. What's not to like?
Roberts is not, and never has been, interested.
"He's not settling" We waited....nothing
"Wait for the grounds to firm up". They did....nothing
"He's had that weight lifted from his shoulders, watch him kick on".....nothing
Dictionary definition of fraud. How people can say he's played well (bar the qf v Wigan) is baffling. They're trying to justify his signing, by upgrading an average performance to [ioh, he REALLY tried, today[/i when we all saw how ordinary he was.
Brown is simply a passer and a shouter. THAT'S IT.
Yes, we can win the GF, but that's a sad indictment of where the level of SL has fallen, in recent years.

| Never mind GF talk, I’m really not sure we’ll make the top4.
Our record against the other top8 sides this season is:
W8 D1 L8
And our current form is bobbins. Last six games:
W2 D1 L3
There are five games to go and at that^ rate we may get two, possibly three wins. That would take it to the wire with Huddersfield who can’t stop winning. The game against them is the key!
As for the OP talking about our deficiencies...
Half backs are poor, second row is poor (in attack our second rowers bring absolutely nothing to the table), size and pace in the pack is poor and lacks numbers.
Also we lack a proper leader and captain. I’d go as far to say that we should sell Chris Hill in the Winter and buy someone else. I don’t ‘get him’ anymore, don’t know what he’s about. He used to be a hard grafter with a good passing game, these days I’m not sure what he is, but he’s not a leader and he’s too niggly. I think he needs a fresh start somewhere else and we need a new #8, captain and main go-forward man.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we go through our final five games with 2 wins and 3 defeats with Huddersfield pipping is to fourth. I think we’re quite an average team with just a few top class players.

| Can't disagree with any of those ratings, biscuit, but the quality of those players (and players at other SL clubs in that era) [iwalk all over[/i what we see in stadia or on TV, these days.
....and that's exactly why nothing is impossible. We CAN win SL. Saints look a shadow of what they were, pre July. Wigan can blow hot or cold, just like us and Cas. A late run of form for Cats and Hudds may we'll leave them a tad short.
Yes, we're a shadow of where we were, 6-8 years ago, but that shouldn't stop us.
Be positive. Despite the last month or so, WE CAN STILL DO IT ( rest assured, Mrs Goldblatt's housekeeping money won't be going anywhere near a Ladbrokes, though..... I'm not THAT confident)
