Another one of the heroes from my youth gone. I remember Tommy playing at Wilderspool in a game against Bradford one Sunday afternoon, it would be about 1977. He absolutely stuffed them virtually single handed during the first half, running from deep and making several tries. Just before halftime he pulled a hamstring and went off. Despite this he was still awarded man of the match, despite playing less than a full half. Tremendous forward. RIP Tommy.
Tommy would have been a revelation playing today, slipping those sublime passes - his try against Wigan straight from the kick off in the Lancashire cup final is one of my treasured memories - a true Wire legend
I remember being at a Testimonial Dinner at the Lymm hotel many years ago when Tommy was still playing. During the interval he said to some of the other players, " Did you see that Gordon McQueen on the top table ( McQueen lived in Lymm when he was playing for Man Utd ), he's supposed to be a hard man. I would f*****g snap him in half.... Compared to the Warrington lads, Mc Queen did look like a long streak of nothing. Nice one Tommy, one of my favourite all time Warrington forwards.
