Quote: Saddened! "The Roby one at the HJ was given due to the ball coming out because of foul play. You are not allowed to attack the ball carrier with your legs to prevent a try. Whether you agree with that or not, that's what they ruled. If they had decided he dropped it, it would have been given as a penalty try. They mentioned this on the commentary at the time, the video ref was never looking for no try, just whether it was try, penalty try or 8 point try. I'd have given penalty try to make it clear.
The Harrison pass off the ground was another correct decision, like all those last night were. You can ignore that because it led to a beautiful outcome. That was another example of the match officials seeing what happened and letting it go upstairs just in case they were wrong.'"
You're also not allowed to play at the ball when more than one defender is in contact, so to deem a 'loose carry' when a ball ejects after interference from a defender seems a bit of rough justice. The problem being, 2 very marginal infringements (one where a leg struck the ball, and one a hand, both unintentionally) that dislodged the ball, were ruled differently.
And the point I made around the Harrison one, was not that it was the right/wrong decision, but it lacked consistency with other instances, when Lunt on the CC semi and Ablett against Cas iirc were both given as tries after consulting the video.
I don't care if they are not given, as long as they are all not given. It has to be consistent
