"The first Brit to really make it in RL down under." ????
I always thought that was Bobby Fulton'"
]
Definitely not so. Mal Reilly was already a legend in the NRL when Stevo arrived there, and is commonly regarded as the best Brit ever to play there by the Aussie public. In fact he was voted so by the Aussie media and pundits a few years ago, and was also in the toughest NRL 13, a few years ago too, which was open to any nationality.
Dick Huddart was also a star in the NRL in the sixties before either, and so if my memory serves me correctly was Dave Bolton. Mal Reilly was instrumental in taking Manly to their first ever Grand Final successes, two in succession and is in the Manly hall of fame. One of the teams they beat in the final, Cronulla had two ex Saints players in their ranks, namely Cliff Watson and Tommy Bishop, who were also great successes in the NRL, the Cronulla club still rate them both very highly in their history. This was just before Stevo arrived there, so to say he was the first Brit to make it down there, is way off the mark.
Bobby Fulton, an Australian international, who played in the same Manly team as Mal Reilly, cannot really be counted. Although he was born in Warrington, he emigrated there as a baby and thus was brought up in Australia and as said was an Aussie international.

(Lee Briers prior to the semi final)
He will deserve it if he contributes to a winning performance.
Clearly he has never done this in the past and thus has never deserved to be in a final, i suspect that the same scenario will occur tomorrow.:30555.jpg
