If he has any pride he would declare that his previous injuries have caught up with him and for the sake of the club and his future health he is retiring and apologies for not coming up to scratch.

OK - not defending him BUT if I had a 2 year contract at work and after 1 year the company told me they didn't want me because I was not up to scratch then I'd tell them to pay me off and I'd go.
I wouldn't go for nothing just because it's my livelihood and a family to feed and mortgage to pay.

Maybe that's how it will work out.

He won't be going home early, he would already be factored into next years cap. We would have to get a team to take over the contract to free up the spend again...I think?

Agreed, he just doesn't seem to be up to the rigours of professional rugby league, I am sure he has been a good player in his day but not any more.

Warrington offered him a 2 year contract and whether we think he is crap or not that contract will have to be honoured. He has kids and if he leaves us he's unlikely to earn the same money next year in an alternative job so he is unlikely to walk away.

Of course we could just push him out and say we aren't honouring the second year of his contract but if he sues us then not only will we end up paying up his contract anyway but also paying a lot of solicitors that would get in on the act and make money from us, as well as just creating bad publicity and bad feeling.

The best thing to do is make the best of a bad situation, OK he's not the player he was a few years ago when he was a world class forward, we made a bad decision on scouting, but try and get the best he's got out of him for the rest of the time he's here. Rauhihi wasn't quite what we expected either and we ended up keeping him for quite a few seasons but by the end he'd made a decent fist of his time with us.
