As part of the fund-raising for former player Greg Mackey, we are planning to put on a quiz night, similar in format to that hosted annually by the Supporters Trust, but possibly a little more light-hearted and quirky, with options to appeal both to those with a rugby league knowledge and those without.

There are 3 reasons that we are aiming to include this amongst the schedule of events:-

1. The organisers are all keen quizzers and enjoy being on the other side of the table by setting and running quiz nights.

2. There is clearly an affinity towards these sort of evenings on behalf of fans, which is evidenced by the magnificent turn-out at the annual Supporters Trust Quiz Night

3. Greg himself was an avid quizzer and was a regular member of our own quiz team on our monthly visits to the Appleton Thorn Village Hall Quiz in the mid-1990s (he, at the very least, enjoyed the social aspect of a good quiz, with the wit and repartee that often flowed between teams and with the various quiz-masters – and a Chinese meal at Kelly’s in Stockton Heath afterwards was always a pleasing end to the evening).

It would be great to think that we could fill the Martin Dawes Suite for this event in the same way that the ST Quiz Night does, but, before we identify a suitable venue, we need to know the likely level of support for the event.

Can I ask all those who have attended the ST Quiz over the past few years (and it has been motoring on with increasing levels of success for 10 years now!!) and who would be willing to support an event in aid of Greg, and all those users of this site who maybe haven’t attended, to let me have an expression of interest in such an event by e-mailing me on Richard.shanks54@gmail.com.

This will enable us to gauge the level of interest for the planned evening and identify a suitable venue in which to hold it, in the event that interest is not sufficient to warrant a facility the size of the Martin Dawes Suite.

Thank you all in anticipation for your support of Greg and his family.
