Quote: BuckleyStreetWire "Do take your head from up your booty. The World Club Challenge is not a barometer of size of club. Even Jamie Peacock himself said the Aussies have only started taking it half-seriously in the last four years and in his first few games in them he said the Aussies were here for a bit of a pre-season friendly on a bit of a pre-season holiday. Even if the Aussies did take it more seriously, it's still only a pre-season exhibition match for them.
Eleven clubs have won more real Championship titles than you, and considering you seem to think Widnes are up there with the other clubs in your list, unfortunately you aren't above us in that list. And did all those clubs throughout the history of the game get a chance to play a World Club Challenge? Did the great Huddersfield, Salford, Wire, either Hull side, or Oldham teams of the past get that chance? So just because you had a good team for one particular coincidental year that saw you play in one, you think that takes you into a different class of club as all of those?
Also four clubs have won more Challenge Cups than you, and one of them clubs is us.
Even if I give you the WCC that would only bring you equal in major trophies won with us. We even won more JohnPlayer/Regal Trophy titles than you and won more Lancashire League titles and Lancashire Cups than you. We've never been relegated and you've never got near our rugby league crowd records.
So if that one game in the late 1980s makes all that mean nowt, makes you a name up there with the others in your list and makes us a second rate club then I do apologise and I bow down to the mighty Widnes............pfft, haha!'"
I can drive a coach and horses through that post.
So the Aussies don't take the WCC serious? Would you be saying that had you beaten Wigan in the GF (instead of getting embarrassed) and gone on to beat Sydney Roosters?
The fact is it's down on record forever that Widnes have been World Club Champions. Warrington haven't and your second rate club never will.
Oh, and when we won it it was played in October. The Aussies didn't use it as 'a bit of a holiday' as you claim. In any case who comes from Australia for a 'holiday' in England in October or February???
And we beat a full strength Canberra Raiders team including Mal Meninga. Arguably the greatest RL player of all time.
And then you mention the great 'Huddersfield, Salford, Wire, either Hull side, or Oldham teams of the past'. So, in your dopey eyes, what they were winning in the 50s 60s etc is relevant but what we did in the late 80s isn't relevant? What a very strange viewpoint.
