Quote Wyrewire="Wyrewire"Its all been good so far and well done to all involved.
Unfortunately we have now been put in our place due to a meaningless RU game v Australia. The papers have been full of rubbish about it all week, my daily paper "I" has 3 full pages about it today and just a small column about James Graham. Even North West news have been reporting about Sale v Exeter and no mention of RL at all. The BBC will of course be salivating over it like the establishment lap dogs they are. So lets not get too optimistic about the effect of the RLWC just yet.'"
The only way to get PROPER recognition for our game, from the Londoncentric media , is for us to actually win the thing.
Too many times in the last 20odd years, we've gone into the last Test of a 3 match series, with the series in the balance (and a WC Final/Tri/Four Nations final) only for us to
a) Come up short
b) go to sleep for 15 minutes
c) get blown out of the water
d) bottle it
As much as we like to "slag off" the RFL for their inertia in promoting our game, the players are still culpable for their performances/lack of success. The public will quickly tire of a team who have little success. That's why our national team(s) attendances have declined again over the past 20 years.
We win this tournament, and we get the biggest springboard this sport has seen in decades. It'll make the dawn of SL (and nicer stadiums to bring your family to) seem like small potatoes.
