Quote: WireFanatic III "And people talk about the rivalry between Wigan and Saints, the supposed intensity, yet here is a Saints fan hoping Wigan wins simply because of a song.

Wow, it's true what they say about it being the "friendly" derby.'"

Warrington RLFC: The Wire, NOT Warrington Wolves FORZA WIRE:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_46584.jpg

International team sport is completely secondary to the club equivalent in my opinion. Where the international games differ is that you get people who don't support clubs watching. Cricket, rugby union and football are the three biggest examples of this in this country. I personally don't watch cricket or RU at any level, but I do know people who have no interest in the club game in either but watch internationals. I have a genuine interest in club football and club RL, and a vague passing interest in both internationally. I'll watch internationals in both because I like the sports, but I don't really care who wins. However, again I do know people who don't support football clubs - or say they do but never seem to watch them - who get giddy all of a sudden at World Cup or European Championships time. RL is different as no one seems to care about it at all unless they are properly into it, in which case they will support a club and - as is the case with everyone I know who is properly into football - they will put club before country every time.

Now the cynic in me says that is unlikely to change much, and a surprise win for England on 30th November will almost certainly not result in mass rejoicing amongst people who had never previously bothered with the sport. I might be wrong but I very much doubt it, and deep down I'm sure most people on here agree. I do however acknowledge that it would result in some increase in media coverage - albeit temporarily - and that would help increase sponsorship and TV opportunities as well as possibly boosting Super League attendances slightly next season.

Therefore I can see why some people - especially if they've already seen their club win everything as Wigan fans have - might choose England "for the good of the game". I don't personally share their noble spirit because I'd always put Wire first regardless, but I can see their point of view.

However, can anyone who has picked England honestly say they genuinely feel equal or even greater passion for the England team than for their club? If so then I'm sorry but I could never ever understand that.
