| Quote morrisseyisawire="morrisseyisawire"Yes all this "Not that kind of player" stuff annoys me ands it isn't relevant. Does that mean that only players who have DEATH tattooed on their knuckles and a meat cleaver secreted in their socks deserve a ban?
He may not have meant to hurt Brett but it was dangerous play and dangerous play should be punished.
And don't get me started on this early plea malarkey.'"
Well have it how you will but Hep Cahill is not 'that type of player'. It was a poor, mistimed tackle and he should be punished for it.
It might be expected from Gareth Hock, or dare I say Morley or Westwood but not Cahill. He went for the big hit and unfortunately for Hodgson, he got it wrong.

| Glad Hodgson OK. Had to be a red correct decision but no real malice - Hodgson was low with bent knees as is his style and the tackler was committed and couldn't get low enough with Hodgson in that position. One match would be a good penalty with warning about technique.

| Not seen the tackle but hope he is ok too.
One of the toughest players in the game Hodgson.

| Quote Oxford Exile="Oxford Exile"Phil Clarke thought it was ok...I kid ye not! He thought it was a legit tackle on a man going to ground. Outragous from the pie eyed to55ER.'"
He shut up after a little while though once he realised that he was in a minority of one. Using his, and some RLFans view on the contact, Rob Burrow should never ever be given a penalty for a high shot again as he ducks far lower than Hodgson did into every challenge.
Players have a 'duty of care' towards their fellow professionals and deserve punishment whether or not it is 'in their nature'. I suspect Hep Cahill can start looking for flights back home for the winter as I don't think he'll get to play for Widnes again in 2013.

| It did appear that Hodge was ducking into it however, as Thelonius mentions above, defenders have a duty of care and if they make contact with the head (even accidentally) then it's a penalty/report/red depending on severity. I'd be surprised if he got a ban as it did appear to be an accident but was still worthy of a red IMO.
Plus, HE HURT MY BRETT

| I said it at the time and I'll say it again now, yes it was reckless, but certainly not malicious. I've seen much worse go unpunished. I really don't think a red was deserved.

| I shouldn't, I really shouldn't but what chance of a headline of "Hodgson struck down by Hep C".
(Nicked from the Widnes forum)!
P.S. I trust Hodgson is on the mend going by tweets etc.

| Ducking down into a tacke or not, anything neck upwards is a high tacke. And therefor a red card.

| If a high tackle is a red we'd be having games with much less than 13 a side every week!
It was a miscalculation by cahill. Brett took the ball and Cahill expected him to stand upright, instead Brett decided to go to ground and got clattered in the process- very badly timed by Cahill who came steaming in and didn't give himself time to check his approach so Cahill definitely at fault a yellow could (and has in similar circumstances ) have been given - but with the mitigating factor of hodgy going to ground I would say SOS.
