Well at least we all know that at the end of the next season the greatest player of my generation will be hanging his boots up, i remember Nat Wood's emotional farewell speech and holding off the tears (just), I'll cry like a baby on Lee's last game, it truly has been a privilege and the game misses a huge character and the last of a generation of world class British halfbacks.

Be sad to see one of the games greats hang up his boots but at least your not going to be wondering will he / wont he each year. The sad thing is these real creative types are few and far between.

Fully agree.
Lee has been one of the very best half backs over the last 20 years.
He has talent to spare but was too wayward in his early career and not focussed enough. icon_biggrin.gifRUNK:
I'd say the structures years ago allowed Lee to do more 'off the cuff' stuff - but that's the same for most teams and players.
Nowadays it's almost as if the players are a little scared of going away from the coaches script - and that includes Lee but TS has arguably brought a lot more consistency to Lee's game and certainly improved his defence.
The last home game of the regular season will be pretty special.

One of the best british halfbacks to grace a rugby league field, a true wire legend.

What an emotional day that will be, we need to give Lee the sending off he deserves by making the halliwell jones similar to old Trafford on fergies last day

Briers is one of the last of a dying breed. With his lack of size and lack of pace I doubt an 18 year old Lee Briers would be taken on by a SL side these days. Despite him having a superior set of skills to any half back you could name. It seems all coaches want is a stocky speedster who can sprint around the pitch. How many more high quality players are falling away from the game because they don't have the physique and pace coaches want?

I'm fairly young many of you will have seen many more players and many more Wires in the game than I have. But in my time and at his best he's been as good and as damaging to an opposition as any SL player I've seen.

There was talk around 2008 and 2009 that Barrow wanted him. I couldn't help but think 'what a wasted talent', a talent that was never fully realised. But Tony Smith came to Warrington and he fully realised the talent in Lee Briers' locker.

^this moment seemed to kick Briers into believing he was the player he could be. From then on he's probably been the best half back in SL.

It'll be a sad day when he retires. Some players come and go, some players leave their mark, some players names will always be remembered; however Lee Briers will go down as a legend.
