Don't do it. I'd heard a lot about how good this place was and how amazing and big the cakes were. On the back of these reviews I decided to take my mum there for her birthday.
As soon as I got there I realised it was the same chain as Evenwood Farm which is near my work so I've been there hundreds of times.
Basically it's cheap pub food cooked in a microwave and bulked out with chips. This wouldn't be so bad if it was buy one get one free or two for tenner but it's not. Most meals on the menu are between 8 and 12 quid. The only thing that is slightly better value is the burger (with a million chips) or the carvery which one of my colleagues says is good but it doesn't look very appertising to me.
I've only had dessert there once when I got a giant chocolate eclair. It was the most bland cream cake I've ever had. How they made it so unsweet is a feat in itself. I thought it must have been a one off so ordered dessert at Chappleford. I got cheesecake and the missus got a vanilla slice. Both were unbelievably bland. We ate them at home and I couldn't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls. I offered it to my daughter who loves cheesecake and she was the same.
The only thing either place has going for it is they normally have 3 guest beers on for around £2.60. I'm not into real ales but I've had a few nice ones in there. The other lads at work like real ales and are normally happy with the selections they have.
