I think Twitter are 'verifying' that the person / organisation that is registering, is actually who they say they are. Its a recent change following a spate of fake twitters.

Come to think of it, how do we know you are not an imposter ? You could have broken into Yed's account with the intention of reading all the world class comments and ideas that we post on here.
