| Quote 21-12="21-12"Welcome to last week.
Tony Smith is probably the most outspoken coach in Super League, and loves a moan. Its quite ironic that this thread exists on this board.'" oh dear me, lack of insight at it's best!
my favorite was --
to wane- "who's going to win the warrington wigan match?"
wane- "if our forwards perform on the day, blah blah blah...we can win it"
to smith- "who's going to win the warrington wigan match?"
smith- "only a fool would predict a match before it's played"

So because he refused to comment on a game he isn't outspoken? How about his comments this week about the playoffs? How about his comments last year about Joel Monaghan and abuse from fans?

| Quote sally cinnamon="sally cinnamon"Well said. Wane delivered the business by winning the league and so if he wants to be a bit outspoken so what.
Some RL fans are right whinging mards, if a coach wants to raise the stakes by what they have said then good for the game IMO, look at guys like Jose Mourinho or Roberto Mancini in football, they aren't afraid to be a bit controversial and shake things up, it makes things more interesting.
Most RL coaches are boring do gooders, they get asked what do you think about the upcoming match, they say "ah yes [insert name of opposition are a really talented team [even if they are rubbish, if you take them lightly they will punish you blah blah" then the article gets written up on a news website under the headline "oring coach wary of [opposition team threat". YAWN.
In any case Wane has managed to rub his own fans up the wrong way at some points this season, there are posts on the Wigan forum from their fans complaining about what he says.
I would like coaches to be more controversial, if they think the RFL is bent and the referees are rubbish come out and say it, then instead of getting all high and mighty and fining them, the RFL or referees could just use their right to reply, say the coach is talking rubbish and he should focus on winning matches rather than criticising the refs. I would like this kind of aggressive banter and it would make RL much more interesting.'"
Or maybe RL coaches are generally more respectful than their football counterparts, which then translates to the players' attitude on the pitch towards each other and the referee.
So yes, we could be more like football. Judging from the reaction of a lot of people though, most would prefer we weren't.

| Blind panic on the Wigan as Sam might be injured, anyone would think they are a one man team.

You mean the comments about the play-offs, that just about everyone apart from Nigel Wood agree with? Smith won't make a negative or disparaging comment about an individual opposition player, Wane would and did.

| Quote Horatio Yed="Horatio Yed"He wouldn't have asked for McGuire to be banned, probably the opposite, he'd have wanted him to play, TS usually moans about silly RFL initiatives, like clubcall and having too many teams in the playoffs.
Can't stand Wane in the same way i couldn't stand Jimmy Lowes when he was our coach, classless and base.'"
I can’t believe it we are now going on about what can and shouldn’t be whinged about. Do you really think anybody listens to what SW says or think he has any verbal clout with any one, especially the RFL? They’re all a big turn-off, Smithy (the um-ah man) makes my ears bleed.

He still should not have said it though. People do listen to SW. Our pack were listening with great interest when he said that Wigan weren't going to be bullied by Warrington again.

| I don't know what all the fuss is about, he's employed to do the best he can for Wigan, rightly or wrongly that's what he thinks he's doing and if that backfires by winding the opposition up then here's hoping. He also seems to be winding half 'his' speccies up in the process...great stuff.
It all adds a bit of interest and if he or anyone comes out with something really out of order then the RL should step in to dampen the conspiracy theorists

The positive part of all this is that it seems to have got everyone wound up. I'm predicting a really explosive game tonight. i think the match officials will have their hands full, I can't wait.

Agreed and it's not as if RL is an 'after you Maude' sport? I'm looking forward to a bit of old fashioned stuff this evening
