Two from a very long time ago would be hard to beat. Robin Thompson was an Irish international second row who had just captained the RU British Lions to South Africa. He signed for Warrington in 1955 for what was then a world record signing-on fee. He was a complete waste of space. Martin Regan who signed a couple of years later was the current England RU fly half and was even worse. We spent so much money on those two that we could not afford any more decent signings and the great wire team of the early fifties faded away.

I took a day off work to greet Joey Johns at Manchester Airport only to see him play one decent game out of three. I'll never get that leave back....Furious!!
