In my opinion they should have stuck with Simmons till at least the end of the year as they are now just in a nothingness until Brown starts at the end of the season.
It's a mess and surprisingly so, this is Saints we are talking about'"
I agree. Sacking Simmons was ludicrous. In the games Saints didn't win when he was in charge it was in close fought games with a try or two (or merely the odd point) in it, in all of those Saints had the chances to win and it was a knock-on or penalty given away that scuppered it. I don't recall them being bullied for 80minutes and dominated over every blade of grass.
Saints have been slowly declining for a few years. You don't lose Sculthorpe, Long, Gidley, Gardner (to numerous injuries), Cunningham, Eastmond and Graham and expect to be the best team over the season every year. Saints have some excellent replacements but they aren't of the same quality as what has been lost over the last three or four years. So when you think about it Simmons was actually doing a good job with a team not quite as good as it previously was. Simmons has coached at the highest level; these two in charge now haven't ever coached adults at any level.
