Quote: sally cinnamon "But remember our very own Tony Smith - when he was in charge of Huddersfield, the dirtiest team in the league in 2003. They used spoiler sthouse tactics and it got results with the limited team they had. Of course when Smith was at Leeds and Warrington with the players at his disposal he could use more attractive tactics. Maguire is doing the best with the personnel he has at his disposal - if he was in charge of a club like Leeds or Warrington whose to say he wouldn't play more adventurous rugby?'"
Was Smith spending the maximum on the salary cap on his Huddersfield squad of 2003?.....I wouldn't have thought so?
Maguire is, and still has to resort to tactics befitting those of a team scrapping for its life, rather than one that has the financial capability to bring in top quality rugby players and play open, entertaining rugby.
I fully agree that any successful side needs a ruthless streak, Wire certainly seem to have plenty of steel to go with the free-scoring rugby, but Maguire doesn't seem to know when to curb the snarling side to his and his side's personality.
