So it looks like another weekend of sunshine on the cards.... the mrs wants me to take her out for the day on saturday... 'somewhere nice that's not a beer garden'..... somewhere where we can chill out and soak up some sun in the northwest... any ideas? all suggestions welcome (apart from walton gardens).

Marbury Park is a nice spot.

Pennington's World of Nazis has excellent picnic facilities, or so I've heard.

Go to Rivington, get some fresh air.

It's only a bit over an hour away, if you put your toe-down

If Mrs DC is up for a bit of a stroll you could try Conwy mountain. It's not that high or too difficult has great views, loads of good spots to stop and if you time it right you head along the beach back to the pubs and chippy on the prom.
