O Brien or Benji Marshall

Is there any need to still discuss this with him singing an extra year?
Even when his contract runs out i think that he will be offered a non-playing contratc at the club. He can then teach the likes of caslick and o'brein how to play the game the Briers way. That is what we need to be doing IMO. Maybe one or twice a week having them 3 slope off at trainging and do something that is more specific to thier positions. Hodgson was not only brought in to replace Mathers, but to teach a young Jordon Burke how to play full back and how to kick goals, but having watched the 20's at Wilderspool we now do not need a gol kicker. O'brein is quality at kicking. He could even give Hodgson a run or his money IMO.

Brett was at the Under 20s game last night seeing what he could learn off Gaz in the kicking department!!!

For me last night has confirmed that in future when we are a half-back missing we shouldn't mess the team around to accommodate, we should bring a straight like-for-like replacement into the team in Gaz O'Brien.

I can appreciate the logic that Huddersfield away is not the palce to give a youngster a debut but having seen a lot of O'Brien over the last three years I cannot believe that we would have been any worse off. At the very least we would have had a long kicking game to play off the back of.

O'Brien is one that I believe can be Briers' long term replacement and I also believe it's time he can be trusted to perform for the first team when we are a half-back short.

Last night he gave the best performance I have seen from any opposition player since we moved to the JJB / DW stadium. He was brilliant and was actually applauded off the field by the Wigan fans when he was substituted with about two minutes to go.

That is the way ahead for all British Clubs. Foster the home grown talent, but please don't get any from Widnes!
