Quote: the tache is back "it wasn't a case of offiah touting him round to the highest bidder, salford contacted warrington and offered the player to us,the player also wanted to come here so it is slightly different to orford who asked his agent to find him the best deal regardless of where it took him,in orfords own words once the deal was struck he "was glad he didn't have to think about it for too long",if rochdale hornets would have come in at the eleventh hour he'd have gone there!'"
Well yes, because they gave him the security of a long term contract on big money, which he wouldn't have got anywhere else. Would Morley have come to us if we'd only offered him a 2 year deal like the other clubs were...?
Why did Gleeson, Sullivan, Reardon etc join us? Was it a case of wanting to join Cullen's annual crusade to just about sneak into the playoffs, or was it because we offered them a deal far better than what they could get elsewhere and they "didn't have to think about it for too long".
If Orford was just a cash cow and purely motivated by money then how come we didn't get him here by waving bank notes at him? If as you say we offered him a 3 year deal on similar money to what Bradford are offering now then why didn't he come? That business about saying he only wanted to come here for one year was because he was still harbouring hopes of getting an Origin or Test call in Aus....so he was obviously willing to turn down the chance of rinsing Wire for 3 years on megabucks to give that a shot.
Out of interest what would you have said about Orford if he'd have sacrificed any ambition of playing representative league in Aus and greedily followed the money by signing our 3 year deal? Would you have said he was a cash cow blah blah or would you have been hailing this as a flagship signing and praising Simon Moran for securing a top player....?
