Wembley was good but to win the league and cap it off with the grand final would be something totally different and would mean a lot more than a challenge cup win imo
Don't get me wrong it was an achievement but if we hadn't won it people would have been calling for Smiths head by the end of the season with our disastrous form in super league it was no different than what Lowes had achieved the previous season won a few then massive slump at the end difference was Lowes qualified for the play-offs ,start of next season will define smith, 7 losses will see people turn on him imo !

I am convinced that Smith targetted the CC once we beat HKR to the detriment of the league - despite what the club party line is.

King and Hicks in particular were wheeled out for the cup games but not risked for league games.

Agreed that the next SL season is the big test for Smith (although I wouldn't say no t another Wembley trip !!

Its seems pretty obvious to me and everyone else that Tony Smith targeted the Challenge Cup as a trophy we could win...

The terrible start we had in the league loseing the first 5 games under Lowes meant it was an up hill battle to finish not just in the 8 but in a high enough position in the 8 where we could mount a decent challenge...

Absolute rubbish.....Yes, league results were not exactly fantastic, but the change in overall mentality at the club as been the most noticable and, for me, the best thing that has happened at the club for donkey's years.

Personally, I have always been somebody who can accept defeat if the team has produced a whole-hearted performance....under Cullen & Lowes, there were definitely times I doubted the players were giving 100% effort, with Tony Smith, I'm more convinced that players are giving their all, even if, sometimes, we are found wanting, results wise.

Compare the recent defeat at Hull KR to some of the defeats at the end of last season and then you might get what I'm talking about...

It was clear that the cup was targeted as winnable after the HKR game. If we had made the playoffs, at best at what sixth? We would not have been able to make a decent challenge.

Next season however there are no excuses. That squad with that coach should be 3rd at worst.

After seeing this weekends fare, I think we could have made an impact. I really can't recall seeing the playoffs lacking the intensity or having so many errors.
