I've just been in a live chat thing on Trainline and he's told me there's no availability left in any way.

Thanks for that ebay link, would be wary of travelling alone with a stranger from ebay though, will look into it.

Maybe my last bet is to get the train into Warrington Bank Quay as early as possible (not sure what's available) and do the Wire Flyer thing?

I've had plans for the Friday night for a while and as gutted as I am I'm going to have to miss them and travel down on the Friday.
