Without wanting to sound jingoistic, you occasionally get that in 'proper' Europe if you're a foreigner. I've got a Milanese* mate - we went out drinking in Milan and although he let me pay for some drinks, he insisted that he handed the cash over. Otherwise the price would have gone up.
*that means someone from Milan, Italy, Dean. Althouh I'm not sure if I've spelt it correctly.

Got charged eight euros in one place per pint. We bartered with the pubs after that and one of them knocked three euros off each pint so we only paid four euros each. Not bad considering its five euros in most places in Perpignan.

| Although drinks in the ground were expensive most pubs and clubs were quite reasonable, especially the happy hour deal of 1 Euro a bottle until the bar ran out of Bud, Forsters, San Mig, E.K Damm and every other drink known to man including buckets of ice and glasses . |
