No, of course you can't...
But people or organisations...unconnected with the club...can pay money to players and it won't count on the cap if structured properly.
(And if you get the structure wrong...see e.g. "Image Rights"... been there done that lost the bloody tee-shirt and two league points...)
And that's just the LEGAL way of doing it.
So if player X signs for the club, but it just so happens that company Y (who is not a club sponsor or is otherwise supposedly connected with the club) chooses to pay megabucks to player X for promoting their products or services (or whatever..) then thats OK apparently.
Its probably even OK if the club happens to...introduce...the player to the...third party.
And its probably even OK if the player for some strange reason agrees to a well-below-market package from the club - presumably because he believes he is earning enough already cos why else would he do it...?
And that's without resorting to brown envelopes or the Singapore Parachute or pots of cash sitting somewhere offshore just waiting to be picked up on the way through...
Allegedly.
Level playing field? Someone is having a laugh!
We lost out on King, allegedly after verbally agreeing terms, once bigger cheque books were waved. Maybe, as we found out with a certain pseudo-welsh Wire alumnus, the cash ain't the answer?
Anyway...speaking of having a laugh...join the club
